Who was Andrea Palladio? Andrea Palladio was an Italian Renaissance Architect known for active in the Venetian Republic. Palladio, influenced by Roman and Greek architecture, primarily Vitruvius, is widely considered to be one of the most influential individuals in the history of architecture. While he designed churches and palaces, he was best known for country houses and villas.

Architectural characteristics of Villa la rotunda : Villa La Rotonda  is a Renaissance villa just outside Vicenza in Northern Italy designed by Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. 1. Completely symmetrical building having a square plan with four facades, each of which has a projecting portico 2. He used four openings as plazas or large stairs to connect the building with nature 3. The whole is contained within an imaginary circle which touches each corner of the building and centers of the porticos 4. Each portico has steps leading up to it, and opens via a small cabinet or corridor to the circular domed central hall

5. In order for each room to have some sun, the design was rotated 45 degrees from each cardinal point of the compass 6.   Each of the four porticos has pediments graced by statues of classical deities. The pediments were each supported by six Ionic columns 7. Each portico was flanked by a single window. All principal rooms were on the second floor or piano nobile 8. Palladio intends to bring more of other architecture into his work as in the dome used in Villa La Rotonda is inspired from Pantheon in Rome.
