ARISTOTELIAN CONCEPT OF MOTION GROUP 1 PRESENTATION

WHAT IS MOTION? Add a Footer 2

Add a Footer 3

MOTION Motion is the action of changing location or position. Life is motion. Form the coordination of the muscles of our body which enables us to walk, run and dance to the pumping of our hearts to deliver blood to the different parts of the body are motion. Add a Footer 4

Aristotle’s concept of vertical, horizontal, and projectile motion Add a Footer 5

1. Vertical Motion Vertical motion is referred to as natural motion. In a natural motion, the object will move and will return to its natural state based on the object’s material or composition_ earth, water, air, and fire. Add a Footer 6

For example, Aristotle believed that because a ball fell when thrown upward, its element was earth. Smoke goes up in the air because it seeks its natural space in the atmosphere. Aristotelian conce pt of natural motion is largely vertical motion. Add a Footer 7

2. Horizontal Motion An object moving in a violent motion requires push or pull to maintain horizontal motion. Motions continues only so long as there is an applied force to an object. When the force is removed, motion steps. Add a Footer 8

The example at the right shows piled boxes of food donations. The boxes will remain on the floor unless push or pull force is applied. Violent motion is imposed cause by pushing or pulling. Aristotle classified any motion that required a force as a “violent motion”, (he did not mean violent in the sense that is marked by the used of harmful or destructive physical force.) Add a Footer 9

3. PROJECTILE MOTION Aristotle believed that the projectile motion of an object is parallel to the ground until it is the object’s time to fall back into the ground. An impetus will be kept by the object until such time that the initial force is forgotten, and the object returns to its natural state to stop moving and fall to the ground. He viewed projectile motion as natural and violent motion. He said that heavy objects fall faster than light ones. Add a Footer 10 Title

CLOSE ALL NOTES (OPEN NOTES WILL BE = 0) Add a Footer 12 It is imposed cause by pushing or pulling . It is the action of changing location or position. ______ is motion. Vertical motion is referred to as ________. He viewed projectile motion as natural and violent motion. Aristotle classified any motion that required a force as a _________. Aristotelian concept of natural motion is largely __________. In a natural motion, what are the 4 object’s material or composition after returning to its natural state? (4 points) What are the 3 Aristotle’s concept of motion? (3 points) What is the title of our topic? 15 POINTS THE CLUES WILL BE GIVEN BY THE ONE ASKING QUESTIONS…..
