Chapter 6 The Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) National Artists (National Living Treasures)
The Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan or National Living Treasures Award Institutionalized through Republic no. 7355 in April 1992 The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is tasked in the administration and implementation of the award.
The Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan or National Living Treasures Awardee A person or group of artists recognized by the Philippine Government for the contributions to the country’s intangible cultural heritage A Filipino Citizen or group of Filipino citizens engaged in any traditional art uniquely Filipino.
The Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan or National Living Treasures Awardee A Filipino artist whose distinctive skills have reached such a high level of technical and artistic excellence.
Qualifications of Awardees A traditional artist who: Adopts a program that will ensure the transfer of their skill to others Undertakes measures to promote a genuine appreciation of the arts Instill pride among our people about the genius of the Manlilikha ng Bayan.
Qualifications of Awardees an inhabitant of an indigenous/traditional cultural community anywhere in the Philippines that has preserved indigenous customs, beliefs, rituals and traditions and/or has syncretized whatever external elements that have influenced it. must have engaged in a folk-art tradition that has been in existence and documented for at least 50 years.
Qualifications of Awardees must have consistently performed or produced over a significant period, works of superior and distinctive quality must possess a mastery of tools and materials needed by the art and must have an established reputation in the art as master and maker of works of extraordinary technical quality.
Qualifications of Awardees must have passed on and/or will pass on to other members of the community their skills in the folk art for which the community is traditionally known.
Traditional artist who possesses all the qualities but due to age or infirmity are incapable of teaching further their craft, may still be recognized if: had created a significant body of works and/or has consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art, thus achieving important contributions for its development.
has been instrumental in the revitalization of their community’s artistic tradition. has passed on to the other members of the community skills in the folk art for which the community is traditionally known. their community has recognized them as master and teacher of their craft.

Diagonal lines suggest action, life and movement give animation to any composition in which they appear
Lines may also be classified into three groups: lines which follow or repeat one another lines which contrast with one another transitional lines which modify or soften the effect of others.

Related color harmonies may either be monochromatic or adjacent Monochromatic harmonies Different tones of the same hue all have something in common, so it is easy for them to agree. adjacent harmony two or three neighboring hues on the color circle are used together
contrasted color harmonies colors which lie directly opposite to each other in the color circle are called complementary colors
texture an element that deals more directly with the sense of touch it has to do with characteristic of surfaces found in all the visual arts
PERSPECTIVE deals with the effect of distance upon the appearance of objects enables us to perceive distance and to s ee the position of objects in space

Modified art expression a range of techniques, manipulating and experimenting with all aspects of the works
Modern Art Expression can be done by: Calligraphic text Deconstructed books Intricately Hand-cut paper Recycled and re-sculptured materials
transcreation The process of adapting a message from one language to another while maintaining its intent , style , tone and context . In other words, transcreation is taking the essence of a message and re-creating it is another language or dialect.
Purpose of transcreation To transfer the intent, style, vocal tone, and emotional salience of the message from the source language to that of the targeted audience.
Transcreation of text to music In novel or poetry, one can generate music with emotional feeling. Example: Recite the poem “Tree” by Joyce Kilmer and transcreate it to music.
Transcreation of text to dance Its using a dialogue or text to influence and enhance dance performance
Transcreation of text to visual art The great majority of the evidence for dance occurred in Ancient Greek which come from visual art.
