Arteries of Neck

Content Common carotid artery Internal carotid artery External carotid artery Vertebral artery Brachiocephalic artery

Common carotid artery In anatomy, the left and right  common carotid arteries   they divide in the neck to form the  external   and  internal carotid arteries . The common carotid arteries are present on the left and right sides of the body. These arteries originate from different arteries,

Internal carotid artery The  internal carotid artery  is a major paired  artery They arise from the  common carotid arteries  where these bifurcate into the internal and   external carotid arteries  at cervical vertebral level 3 or 4; the internal carotid artery supplies the brain,

External carotid artery The  external carotid artery  is a major  artery  of the head and neck. It arises from the  common carotid artery  when it splits into the external and  internal carotid artery . It supplies blood to the face and neck. The external carotid artery begins at the upper border of  thyroid cartilage , and curves, passing forward and upward, and then inclining backward to the space behind the neck of the  mandible , where it divides into the  superficial temporal  and  maxillary artery  within the  parotid gland .

Vertebral artery The  vertebral arteries  are major  arteries  of the neck. Typically, the vertebral arteries originate from the subclavian arteries. the vertebral arteries provide supply blood to the upper   spinal cord ,  brainstem ,  cerebellum , and  posterior part of brain .

Brachiocephalic artery The  brachiocephalic artery   is an  artery  of the   mediastinum  that supplies blood to the right  arm  and the  head  and  neck . It is the first branch of the  aortic arch , and soon after it emerges, the brachiocephalic artery divides into the right  common carotid artery  and the right  subclavian artery .
