SAMPLE – ARTICLE WRITING QUESTION The 21 st century has seen a severe erosion of values in the society. Experts and educationists stress on value-based education as the need of the hour. Write an article, in not more than 150 words, on the need for value based education. You are Harish or Harini from Std 12.
Value Based Education – The Need Of The Hour Harish, XII It is rightly said that ‘’ values are priceless, while valuables are priced.’’ Values like love, compassion, sympathy, empathy, tolerance, etc, lay the foundation for values like honesty, discipline, punctuality and loyalty. Today’s fast paced competitive world, has led man to have compromised on his values, integrity and character. As a result, we see aggression, selfishness, rampant corruption, unlawful activities and inhuman behaviour. Answer
There is an urgent need to introduce value based education dealing specifically with human values, to redesign the fabric of our educational system. Childhood is the right time and age to impart value education so that the right impressions formed in the child’s mind guide him throughout his life. School is the interactive and learning environment where the human values can be easily evoked in a child by making him / her ‘’experience’’ and ‘’live’’ the values. This can be done through workshops, seminars, camps on open forums. These are some of the ways in which children can understand that ‘’values are to be caught, but not just taught’’.
The need of the hour is to integrate value based education into our curriculum as it not only provides us a profession which we can pursue but also serves as a purpose in life and the ability to know and be ourselves. **********
