- Introduction to the Artery and V ein Arteries and V ei ns , are two of the body’s main type of blood vessels. These vessels are channels that distribute blood to the body. They’re part of two closed systems of tubes that begin and end at the heart. Arteries are blood vessels responsible for carryi ng oxgen –rich blood  away from the heart to the body. Veins are blood vessels that carry blood low i n oxgen from the body back to the heart for reoxygenation .

- S ystems of tubes are  Pulmonary : The pulmonary vessels are arteries that transport oxygen-poor blood from the heart’s right ventricle to the lung .  Systemic : The systemic vessels are arteries that carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart’s left ventricle to the tissues in all parts of the body .

- Structure of blood vessel walls Arteries and veins Outer :   Tunica adventitia . Middl e: T unica media . Inner : T unica intima

- T ypes of A rteries Elastic arteries : largest thick walled arteries Aorta /major branches Elastin in all tu nics Blood directly from heart Resist high pressure Large vulome Large lumen =low resistance

Arterioles Smallest arteries Lead to capillary beds Control of flow Vasoconstriction vasodilation

- Muscular (distributing ) arter y Distal to elastic arteries Deliver blood to organ Have thick tunica media Smoth muscle Vasoconstriction vasodilation

- Veins Retu rn blood flow to heart Converging venlules Larger lumens Thin walls Decreas blood pressure

- T ypes of V ein s Deep veins :  are located within muscle tissue . Superficial veins :are closer to the skin’s surface. Pulmonary veins : transport blood that’s been filled with oxygen by the lungs to the heart.  Systemi c veins : They transport deoxygenated blood back to the heart.

- Main difference between Artery Carry the blood away from the heart to all the body . Carry oxygenated blood Pulmonary artery cary deoxygenated blood Arteries Red in color due to oxygenated bold that they carry the arter y and vein Vein Carry the blood to the heart from all the body. Carry deoxygenated blood Pulmonary vein carry oxygenated blood Vein s are blue in color since they carry deoxygenated blood

- Main difference between 5.wall of artery is elastic . 6 .plus e is detectable in the artery . 7 .artery is a resistance blood vessel . 8. the artery dose not have valves. the arter y and vein 5.wall of vein is not elastic . 6 .plus e is not detectable in the vein . 7 . vein is capacitance blood vessel . 8. the vein cotains valves.
