Objectives To describe the morphology of the parasite To highlight various aspects of life cycle of Ascaris

Morphology Cylindrical in shape (fusiform) Largest intestinal nematode Pinkish or creamy white in colour Body wall covered by cuticle Round and tapers at both ends 3 toothed lips(1 dorsal and 2 ventral ) Internal organs floats in irritating fluid k/a ascaron or ascarase ( Allergic manifestation )

Male: 15-20 cm Male has a end ventrally curved in the form of a hook with conical tip The genital pore and ejaculatory duct open into the cloaca Two copulatory spicules protudes from the cloaca

Female: 20-40 cm Posterior end neither pointed nor curved Vulva opens at midventral vulvar waist 0.2 million eggs per day
