APEC APEC Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the most influential official forum for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. From November 5th to 7th, 1989, the first ministerial meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Conference was held, marking the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Conference. In June ,1993, it was renamed the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Organization. In November 1991, China, as a sovereign country, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong (renamed "Hong Kong, China" since July 1st, 1997) formally joined APEC in the name of regional economies. There are 21 members in APEC. In September 2014, APEC had 21 full members and three observers.

The purpose and spirit of APEC The "Seoul Declaration" was adopted at the 3rd APEC Ministerial Conference in Seoul, South Korea ,in November 1991, which formally established APEC's purpose and goals: "Interdependence, common interests, adhere to an open multilateral trading system and reduce regional trade barriers. .“ In 1993, APEC put forward the spirit of APEC in the Declaration of the Informal Leaders' Meeting in Seattle, the spirit of the APEC family, to create a stable and prosperous future for the people of the region, to build a family of Asia-Pacific economy, and deepen the opening up in this family. And a spirit of partnership, contribute to the world economy and support an open international trading system.
Development of APEC APEC was a regional economic forum and consultation organization at the beginning of its establishment, and it is a forum for promoting economic growth, cooperation, trade, and investment among various regions in the Asia-Pacific region. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Organization was established in 1989 and currently has 21 member economies. APEC is a forum platform for economic cooperation. Its operation is to emphasize open dialogue and equal respect for the opinions of all members through non-binding commitments and voluntary membership. It is different from other intergovernmental organizations established by treaties. After more than ten years of development, it has gradually evolved into an important economic cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region and the highest-level intergovernmental economic cooperation mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region in 2011.
China's accession to APEC In July 1990, the Second Ministerial Conference of APEC adopted a "Joint Statement" in Singapore to welcome China, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong to join the organization at the same time. In November 1991, on the basis of the principle of "one China" and "differentiating sovereign countries and regional economies", China, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong (were changed to "Hong Kong of China" ) on July 1, 1997 to formally join APEC. On October 20, 2001, the Ninth APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting was successfully held in Shanghai, China. The meeting adopted important documents such as the "APEC Economic Leaders' Declaration," "Shanghai Consensus," and "Digital APEC Strategy", which have strongly promoted the development of bilateral relations between China and relevant APEC members.
APEC conference in Shanghai(2001) The meeting adopted and issued the "Leaders' Declaration to Meet the New Challenges of the New Century", the "Shanghai Consensus" and the "Digital APEC Strategy" and other documents. The leaders of the participating members also used the luncheon to exchange views on the issue of anti-terrorism and issued the "APEC Leaders' Statement on Anti-Terrorism." Chinese President Jiang Zemin presided over the meeting and delivered an important speech entitled "Strengthening Cooperation to Meet the New Challenges of the New Century" comprehensively expounding China's views on the current world and regional economic situation and its propositions on advancing the APEC cooperation process.
APEC conference in Beijing(2014) The theme of this summit is: to build a future-oriented Asia-Pacific partnership. Among them, the leaders' summit was held in Yanqi Lake, Huairou, Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping presided over the summit.
