E stos factores afectan de manera negativa su desarrollo cognitivo, motor y socioemocional OMS, estima que el 10% de a poblacion de cualquier pais esta constituida por personas con algun tipo de retraso en el desarrollo.

Si el perímetro cefálico se encuentra por debajo de -2DE o por encima de +2 DE o presenta alteraciones en el examen físico (tres o más alteraciones fenotípicas) o existe ausencia de uno o más hitos para la franja etaria anterior a la que le corresponde, clasificar como PROBABLE RETRASO DEL DESARROLLO (fila roja) Si el niño/a no presenta alteraciones en el examen físico (perímetro cefálico entre - 2 DE y +2DE y no tiene alteraciones fenotípicas) y todos los hitos para su franja etaria están presentes, pero existe uno o más factores de riesgo, clasificar como DESARROLLO NORMAL CON FACTORES DE RIESGO (primera fila amarilla). Si no presenta alteraciones en el examen físico pero existe ausencia de uno o más hitos para su franja etaria, clasificar como ALERTA PARA EL DESARROLLO (segunda fila amarilla) Recordar que la clasificación amarilla tiene dos alternativas DESARROLLO NORMAL CON FACTORES DE RIESGO o ALERTA PARA EL DESARROLLO. Si no existen alteraciones en el examen físico, presenta todos los comportamientos de su franja etaria y no presenta factores de riesgo para su desarrollo, clasificar como DESARROLLO NORMAL (fila verde).
