Biodegradable Polymer Biodegradable polymers are defined as materials whose chemical and physical characteristics undergo deterioration and completely degrade when exposed to microorganisms, aerobic, and anaerobic processes . These polymers are found both naturally and synthetically made, and largely consist of ester , amide , and ether functional groups. Biodegradable polymers are often used to reduce the volume of waste in packaging materials. Example : Nylon 2–Nylon 6, PHBV. 3 ICChE 2020
Biodegradable Polymer Properties : G ood mechanical integrity until degraded. Non-toxicity. Bio-compatibility. Tensile strength. Ability to be degraded by microorganisms present in the environment by entering the microbial food chain . Uses: Biodegradable polymers uses in the biomedical field , particularly in the fields of tissue engineering and drug delivery . Used as mainly Packaging materials. 4 ICChE 2020

Merits of Using Biodegradable Polymer 11 1 Simply generated in our homes. 2 Production doesn't want any higher supervising. 5 Environmentally friendly . 3 More suitable than petroleum-based plastics. 4 Bio plastics don't cause any health issues primarily . 6 Easily degrade into the soil . 7 D egraded by Bacteria present in Soil . 8 Bio plastic takes most probably 6-7 days to degrade into the soil .
