Learning Outcomes Having completed this module, you should be able to : Outline the important aspects of the Microsoft PowerPoint application. Describe the process for navigating the Microsoft PowerPoint home screen. Identify the different views on Microsoft PowerPoint . Discuss ways to improve efficiency when working on PowerPoint.  Analyze the functions of ribbons and icons in PowerPoint. Describe the use of the quick access toolbar. 

Module 2 Overview The normal view of PowerPoint shows you the main slide, the mini-preview of the designed slides.  The main aim of a PowerPoint presentation is ultimately to deliver a presentation to an audience.  The slideshow view allows you to hide your normal view from the audience.  The following are the different views we have on PowerPoint home screen: - Normal view - Slide sorter view - Reading view - Slideshow view To move between slides in a slideshow presentation, you can use one of the following: - Click on your mouse - Use the arrow keys on your keyboard The ESC key is used to jump out of a presentation.  The quick access toolbar allows you to quickly access commands which are used frequently. The quick access toolbar is also customizable.

Moduel 3 Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint

Learning Outcomes  Having completed this module, you should be able to : Discuss some useful presentation tips and guidelines in PowerPoint.  Describe how to create a new presentation on PowerPoint. Identify the different storage locations for saving a presentation file.  Identify the steps for inserting or duplicating a slide in a presentation.  Analyze the different ways a slide can be formatted.  Outlines the steps for adding text to a new slide layout. 

Lesson Summary Subtle colours like blue, brown and black create 'trust' with the audience. Bright colours like red tend to create an impact on the audience. It is important to remember to never use red and green right next to each other in a presentation. Keep consistent colours throughout the presentation. As a general rule, you should use the following font sizes: Titles - size 44 Subtitles - size 32 Text - size 28 Also, you should never have more than three different fonts in a presentation. Consider using images instead of words. Less text is better.  Bullets can have up to five levels which you can use in listings.  Always have a title slide in your presentation.

Learning Outcomes Having completed this module, you should be able to : Analyze the different editing options for working on texts in a presentation.  Discuss the uses and how to add bullets and numbered lists to a presentation. Identify the number of levels which a bullet list can be added.  Discuss the functions of the place holder in a PowerPoint presentation slide. Describe the various bullet and numbered list formats in a presentation. 

Lesson Summary The text in your presentation can be formatted to suit what you need.  Various properties of a text like the colour and size can be formatted on PowerPoint.  PowerPoint comes with a placeholder which can be used to highlight a text when you want to format the text. The following are some of the font options available in PowerPoint contains: - Fonts - Font size -  Bold, Italics, and Underline - Text Shadow - Character spacing You can have up to five levels in your bullet lists.  There are different bullet styles available in PowerPoint for you to choose from. There are also formatting options available for bullets in a presentation. There are no restrictions on how to format your bullets as long as it is suitable for your presentation.

Module 5: Adding Graphics Getting started

Learning Outcomes Having completed this module, you should be able to: Describe the steps for adding graphics to a presentation slide.  Describe the steps for adding shapes to a presentation, as well as some of the shapes available.  Analyze the process for removing the background of an image.  Discuss how to use the creative commons license to filter images.  Explain the importance of graphics to a PowerPoint presentation.  Explain the importance of icons and 3D models in a presentation.

Lesson Summary Shapes can be inserted to a presentation to give it a better visual appeal. When you add too many graphics, it may tend to overlap and clash with the design template.  The background can be formatted to suit the requirements for the presentation. Different categories or groups of shapes can be customized depending on what you want.  Action buttons are shapes that act as hyperlinks in your presentation.  Some shapes have an extra control handle to allow for further manipulation of the shape.  3D models are used to give the presentation a more realistic view and are an important addition to a presentation.  Icons can also be added to a presentation when necessary.  Pictures are also a great way to improve the quality of your presentation on PowerPoint. 

Module 6: Working with Objects

Learning Outcomes  Having completed this module, you should be able to:  Describe how to select and edit various objects on a slide.  Discuss the ways objects can be formatted and arranged on a slide.  Identify the different types of objects that can be added to a presentation.  Explain the ways to change the size and colour of an object. Identify the different properties of an object that can be formatted on PowerPoint.  Describe how to draw a net when groupping multiple objects. 

Lesson Summary Objects like pictures, text, images, and others can be added to a presentation to improve the quality of the presentation.  Multiple objects can be selected at the same time if you want to perform the same function on all of them by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on all the objects you want.  You can also draw a net over all the objects you want to select at the same time instead of clicking on one at a time.  CTRL A selects all the objects on a slide.  The properties of all objects can be formatted or changed to suit your requirements for your presentation.  You can also arrange the objects in any position you see fit on the presentation slide.  Objects can also be grouped as one object if you want to perform the same actions like formatting or moving on all of them at the same time.

Lesson Summary There are various picture options available on Microsoft PowerPoint.  Pictures on a slide can be cropped to various sizes on a slide depending on what you want to do on the presentation slide.  You can also carry out different formatting options on a picture to match the requirements or settings for your presentation.  The background of a picture can be changed or removed in a PowerPoint presentation.  In Microsoft PowerPoint, you can mix and match two different pictures to create a new picture on PowerPoint.  It is always important to use pictures which are relevant to your slide presentation on PowerPoint.  When using pictures, always use pictures that blend with each other on the slide. This way, your presentation slide does not look careless. 

Module 8: Working with SmartArt

Learning Outcomes Having completed this module, you should be able to: Describe the steps for using SmartArt in a presentation.  Identify the ways to use SmartArt in creating a flowchart.  Analyze the ways SmartArt can be modified to suit a PowerPoint presentation.  Explain the steps for changing the slide layout after adding a SmartArt  Outline the types of information that can be represented using a flowchart.

Lesson Summary SmartArt is a relatively new feature added to Microsoft PowerPoint 2019 which is used to improve your presentation.  SmartArt is a good way to represent information in a visual way with very little effort.  There are two ways to use SmartArt in a presentation: - You can directly add it to a blank slide - You can have generic info typed on your slide which is converted to a SmartArt object SmartArt is categorized and you can choose based on how you want to represent information on your slide.  The following are some categories of SmartArt available on PowerPoint: - List                                           - Matrix - Process                                   - Pyramid - Cycle                                        - Picture - Hierarchy                                 - Relationship Using SmartArt, you can also create a flow chart to show various kinds of information on your presentation slide.
