3. Introduction Any bleeding which deviates from normal characteristics of menstrual cycle. To create universally accepted nomenclature to describe abnormal uterine bleeding, FIGO and ACOG introduced newer system of terminology to describe AUB called PALM- COEIN (FIGO-2011).

5. Causes of aub Organic causes : Uterine fibroid Endometriosis Adenomyosis Endometrial polyps IUCD Adnexal pathology Ovarian neoplasms

6. Causes of aub Hematological, Endocrine and others Platelet deficiency Leukemia ITP Von Willebrand disease Thyroid dysfunction PCOS Arteriovenous malformation

8. History Age  Age of menarche Parity Menstrual parameters : regularity/frequency/ duration/volume Intermenstrual/ postcoital bleeding H/o coagulatory disorders. Associated symptoms: vaginal discharge, dysmenorrhea,infertility Recent abortion IUCD insertion

9. Examination General examination Signs of PCOS : Hirsutism, Acanthosis nigiricans , acne. Abdominal examination for lump. Per speculum examination for growth. Bimanual pelvic examination. Per vaginal and pelvic examination : not done in virgin adolescents.
