Audience research B2 - lydia

This is the first question that I asked s I wanted to understand the age of my audience so that I could target them correctly. Age is a big factor as this is who I will be presenting my pitch to. I also like to see what age they range too as I can alter my ideas to suit them personally. As we can see many people like to watch documentaries, however it was a close call between short films and both. I feel as many people would say that they would do a documentary however I would like to introduce my target audience to something different and try change their mind on short films. I would like to show how interesting they can be and hopefully use the brief of Sunderland culture to draw them in.

As we can see some of the responses state that they would like to learn new things however in my short film I would like to show Sunderland's impact on music. This can be very interesting and pull in an audience that may like listening to music. As well as this we can see that people find them both very interesting therefore a short film would be a great change for my audience. Many people would like it to be around 30 minutes however I feel as though I would settle around the 20 minutes mark as it seems a popular answer and fits in with some of the audience that decided 10 and 15 minutes would be a nice time for them. This has helped me in my audience research as it gives me judgement to how long the audience would be interested in watching.

As we can see many people have stated music is an interesting topic, therefore settling my queries on what to produce for my audience. Sport and videogames were also stated however these will be slightly showed in my short film to make sure that my audience are all satisfied and targeted. As we can see people watch short films a lot less than documentaries. (this can be seen on the next slide). This is where I stated that I would like to change this to get more people interested in short films . As I feel as though more people need to know about short films as it is a gap in the market that targets towards my audience.

as stated previously documentaries are more popular than short films. I feel like this is due to marketing gap within short films. This just means I can try and sway my audiences mind and expand their knowledge on sunderland culture and short films As we can see some responses to the question. There was more responses about documentaries based on horror and music, as well as some music based and silent short films. This is important as it can help me determine my outcome of my short film.

Focus group questions - what music artists do you like? - what movies do you like ? - what music do you listen too ? - have you gone to a gig or concert in Sunderland? -would you ever preform live or learn an instrument ? - would you like an insight on life of a performer Focus group

Audience profile

Audience profile Age – I am going to be targeting 16–25-year-olds as this can widen their experiences and knowledges on Sunderland culture as well as their knowledge on short films. This age gap is where many of my peers stand, therefore I will be making a pitch and using their answers as examples as to how my idea will impact them and their opinions on short films. Demographics It is aimed at both males and femails , and specifically at people based around Sunderland as that is stated as a key part of the brief. This won't be aimed at anyone with a specific income as it is targeted to many people Psychographics This is aimed at people who are interested in music, as well as short film. I would also like to target people around the Sunderland area. Social grade- I am going to target towards any social grade ; however my main social grade would be towards social grade D and maybe C , mainly because music is quite an expensive hobby , and can cost a lot f money to travel to and pay for gigs.
