PROBLEM STATEMENT:
INDIA HAS ONE OF THE WORLD’S
HIGHEST VEHICLE THEFT CASES.
ØAs per THE ECONOMIC TIMES, India has one
of the world’s highest vehicle theft cases.
ØWith one being stolen every five minutes, as per
the NATIONAL CRIME RECORDS
BUREAU.
ØThe total loss is estimated to be over Rs 1,000
crore by the industry.
ØThe purpose of the study is investigate the
feasibility of vehicle tracking technologies for
vehicles using GPS.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
ØOne of the most efficient way of solving this
problem is to install a ANTI THEFT system in every
car.
Ø
An ANTI THEFT is any devise used to prevent or
deter appropriation of items considered valuable.
ØThis anti theft system ceases the engine and
prevents it from starting when this system is
activated.
ØThis anti theft system prevents from running the car
when the system is activated.
ØOnce the system is deactivated, the car starts to
function normally.

FLOW DIAGRAM OF THE SYSTEM

DETAILED STUDY OF FLOW DIAGRAM
ØACTIVATE : It is the input given by the vehicle owner when car goes
missing.
ØCEASE ENGINE: The engine is ceased so that the thief have to pull over
and preventing it from starting again until the system is DEACTIVATE D
by the vehicle owner again.(*)
* NOTE:CEASING of engine does not include any tampering of ENGINE
and ECU unit.
ØLOCK DOORS: Once the thief is inside, all the doors are locked and
avoiding him to escape.
ØTRANSFER INFORMATION: Information like location, pictures will be
sent to the owner and police through GPS.
ØLOCATION PICTURES : 4 cameras will be installed at the 4 quadrants of
the car to get a precise location or to identify any landmark which is
nearby the vehicle. In addition to that a extra camera will be installed
inside the car to capture the picture of the thief which will used for
prosecuting the suspect.
ØTRACK LOCATION : Using GPS a precise location can be obtained
(latitude and longitude).
ØRECEIVER : It receives the data from TRANSFER INFORMATION
block and displays the information.
ØVEHICLE OWNER : Once the location is obtained and the vehicle is
recovered, the owner DEACTIVATES the system so that the vehicle starts
to work as usual

WORKING PRINCIPLE.
GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS).
ØThe GPS satellites act as reference points from which receivers on
the ground detect their position. The fundamental navigation principle
is based on the measurement of pseudo ranges between the user and
four satellites. Ground stations precisely monitor the orbit of every
satellite and by measuring the travel time of the signals transmitted
from the satellite four distances between receiver and satellites will
yield accurate position, direction and speed. Though three – range
measurements are sufficient, the fourth observation is essential for
solving clock synchronization error between receiver and satellite.
Thus, the term ―pseudo ranges‖ is derived. The secret of GPS
measurement is due to the ability of measuring carrier phases to about
1/100 of a cycle equaling to 2 to 3 mm in linear distance. Moreover
the high frequency L1 and L2 carrier signal can easily penetrate the
ionosphere to reduce its effect. Dual frequency observations are
important for large station separation and for eliminating most of the
error parameters.

MICROCONTROLLER
The 89C51RX+ devices contain a non-volatile FLASH program memory (up to 64 k
bytes in the 89C51RD+) that is both parallel programmable and Serial In-System
Programmable. In-System programming allows devices to alter their own program
memory, in the actual end product, under software control. This opens up a range of
applications that can include the ability to field update the application firmware.
A default serial loader (boot loader) program in ROM allows In-System serial
programming of the FLASH memory without the need for a loader in the FLASH
code. User programs may erase and reprogram the FLASH memory at will through
the use of standard routines contained in ROM.
These devices are Single-Chip 8-Bit Microcontrollers manufactured in advanced
CMOS process and are derivatives of the 80C51 microcontroller family. All the
devices have the same instruction set as the 80C51.
See P89C51RX2 data sheet for devices which do not require a 12 V programming
voltage.
The devices also have four 8-bit I/O ports, three 16-bit timer/event counters, a multi-
source, four-priority-level, nested interrupt structure, an enhanced UART and on-chip
oscillator and timing circuits. For systems that require extra memory capability up
to64 k bytes, each can be expanded using standard TTL-compatible memories and
logic.
The added features of the P89C51RX+ Family makes them even more powerful
microcontrollers for applications that require pulse width modulation, high-speed I/O
and up/down counting capabilities such as motor control.

CONTINUED..

ØFrom the above statistics as per the NATIONAL
CRIME RECORDS BUREAU 2011, Total number
of vehicles (car, jeep, taxi) stolen is 21099.
ØTotal number of vehicles recovered is 5254.
ØThe recovery percentage is approximately 25%.
ØTotal number of vehicles (Motor cycles, scooters)
stolen is 122367.
ØTotal number of vehicles recovered is 328261.
ØThe recovery percentage is approximately 27%.

COMPARISON.
PROPOSED
ANTI THEFT
SYSTEM
ØThe new proposed
anti theft system
can be adopted to
any vehicle.
ØThis system is
economically
affordable to the
Indian market.
EXISTING ANTI
THEFT SYSTEM
ØExisting anti theft
system is limited
to higher end
versions (cars).
ØThis system is
costlier and work
with limited
editions
