AUXILIARY METHODS OF TREATMENT § 286 - 291 Dr Sebastian P A Assistant Professor Dept. of Organon Father Muller HMC
They are dynamic in nature Acts powerfully in vital force and neutralize the disease like medicines It cures diseases like Sensibility and irritability Abnormal sensations Involuntary muscular movements
Main Auxiliary Methods are Galvanism and Electricity - § 286 Magnetism (Mineral Magnetism) - § 287 Mesmerism (Animal Magnetism) - § 288-89 Massage - § 290 Bath in pure water - § 291
1. Galvanism and Electricity Palliative method Mostly given for paralysis Produces more damage In their primary action, it stimulate muscular action of weak limbs and produce active movements but secondary action leads to paralysis (§ 59)
2. Magnetism (Mineral Magnetism) Both the poles of magnet are equally powerful and opposite in action Indicated pole will be exposed to affected area Doses are modified by the length of time of contact with one or the other pole If the action is too violent, application of a polished zinc plate will antidote it.
3. Mesmerism / Animal Magnetism Introduced by Mesmer It is a process by which the vital energy of a well intentioned mesmerizer is endowed to the sick either with or with out contact.
TYPES Positive Mesmerism Negative Mesmerism
a) Positive Mesmerism It is the process of replacing the sick vital force which is present deficiently here and there by the mesmerizer
b) Negative Mesmerism It is the process of distributing the over accumulated vital force equally all over the body
Process Either by Rapid pass or slow pass From head to toe or in the affected area
Qualities of Mesmerizer Well intentioned person Moderate sexual desire Free from prejudism ( Bogotry ), Excessive intolerance of contradiction (Fanaticism) and religious mania (Mysticism)
Precautions Both patient as well as mesmerizer should not wear anything silk on the body Never do repeated passes at frequent intervals to delicate patients especially negative pass
4. Massage Given by vigorous good natured person to chronic cured patient but still suffering with loss of flesh, weakness of digestion, and lack of sleep The muscles of the limbs, breast and back must be separately massaged It will help to restore the tone of muscle and blood and lymph vessals
5. Bath in pure water Partially palliative and partially Homoeopathic in acute as well as convalescence of cured chronic patients Lukewarm water (25 o R– 27 o R) Cold water bath (10 o R – 6 o R)
Lukewarm water Bath (25 o R– 27 o R) Helpful for frozen, drowned people Give in conjunction with coffee and rubbing with hands May give homoeopathic aid to some conditions like hysteric spasms and infantile convulsions
Cold water bath (10 o R – 6 o R) Cured homoeopathically chronic disease with deficient vital heat Act as palliative in restoring the tone of exhausted muscle fiber by instantaneous and later with repested immersions Use rather for minutes and gradually lowering temperature
