Old Testament TimelineOld Testament Timeline
•In the beginning… = God creates the
world and Adam and Eve begin their
family with Cain, Abel and Seth.
•8000 B.C. = God saves Noah and family
from the Deluge.
•3000 B.C. = Egyptian pyramids are built.
•2000 B.C. = Abraham becomes father of
Jewish nation having Isaac as son;
destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

•1800 B.C. = Joseph, one of Jacob’s 12
sons sold to Egypt, becomes governor
and later descendants become slaves.
•1400 B.C. = Moses liberates Hebrew
people from Egypt known as the Exodus.
•1350 B.C. = Joshua succeeds Moses and
conquers the promised land with the
downfall of the City of Jericho.

•1300 B.C. = After Joshua’s death land is divided
among tribes and led by judges such as
Deborah, Gideon, Samson and Samuel. Ruth
lived during this time.
•1000 B.C. = Israel’s first kings proclaimed
namely: Saul, David and Solomon.
•950 B.C. = Temple at Jerusalem is built.
•900 B.C. = Solomon dies and kingdom divided
into Israel (north) and Judah (south).

•850 B.C. = Elijah becomes a leader and prophet
and is succeeded by Elisha.
•800 B.C. = Isaiah, Joel, Micah, Obadiah and
Nahum prophesy to Judah while Hosea, Amos
and Jonah prophesy to Israel.
•770 B.C. = First Greek Olympics held.
•750 B.C. = Rome becomes a city.
•600 B.C. = The people of Judah are taken
captive into Babylon and prophets during this
time were Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel.

•500 B.C. = The first exile return to Jerusalem
and begin to rebuild.
•450 B.C. = Rebuilding of temple completed,
Jewish leaders were Ezra and Nehemiah and
prophets were Haggai and Zechariah.
•425 B.C. = Queen Esther is crowned in Persia.
•400 B.C. = Malachi, the last book of the Bible is
completed which prophesies about John the
Baptist opening the New Testament events.

•250 B.C. = The Septuagint is written (Greek
O.T.) since Greek was common language of that
time and later the version used by Jesus and His
disciples.
•150 B.C. = The Maccabean revolt against an evil
Syrian ruler and Judas, the eldest son, leads
Jewish nation into prosperity.
•100 B.C. = Julius Caesar is assassinated and
replaced by Augustus Caesar who ordered the
census that caused Joseph and pregnant Mary
to travel to Bethlehem.
