LOCATION (HOMETRACT) The Badri breed derived its name from the holy shrine of Char Dham at Badrinath .
INTRODUCTION The breeding tract of Badri cattle extends to hilly districts of Uttarakhand . It is found in both the two divisions of Uttarakhand i.e., Kumaon and Garhwal . Badri is dual purpose breed of Uttarakhand which also known as “ Pahadi ”. This breed requires minimal care and is blessed with a strong immunity. It is only cattle breed belongs to Uttrakhand is registered by NBGAR on 1 August 2016.
MORPHOLOGY Small in size with long legs and varied body colours – black, brown, red, white or grey. Horns are curved-upward and inward. Badri is Small sized, active and sure-footed animal. Straight forehead with prominent poll, medium to large hump. Udder small

CHARACTERISTICS Animals are well adapted to hilly terrains and climatic conditions . Weighing between 200–250kg. Muzzle and hooves are black or brown in colour . The tail is long with a black switch. Average milk yield per lactation of Badri cow is 632 kg (range from 547 to 657 kg) with an average milk fat of 4 % (range from 3.6 to 4.4 %).
