Equipment and material are needed to make tests and to demonstrate patient care such as eye irrigation, application of ointments ,medications.
Four compartments are present in the bag:
Outer pocket
Side pockets
Sterile compartments
Lower compartment
Bag technique is a prior procedure which is carried out before other procedures. Without bag technique the next steps can not be carried out.

01 COMMUNITY HEALTH BAG Community health bag is known as a public health bag is an essential equipment of a public health nurse , designed to carry materials needed during a visit to the home, school . Equipment and material are needed to make tests and to demonstrate patient care such as eye irrigation, application of ointments ,medications.
PURPOSES OF COMMUNITY HEALTH BAG To carry equipment and material needed for home, school visit To carry equipment and materials that are needed to make tests and to demonstrate procedures like dressing, injections, eye irrigation, vital signs etc. To perform blood and urine investigation during visits. To collect and carry the samples of a person.
The nurse should use an economical method of using supplies and equipment in a bag appropriately. Clean and dry the bag and articles before replacing it to the bag. Clean and sterilise contaminated articles before returning to bag. The bag should contain all necessary articles, equipements. Follow aseptic techniques throughout the procedures.

PROCESS OF BAG TECHNIQUE Select a clear area and spread the newspaper that place ↓ Place the bag in one corner of the newspaper ↓ Remove the watch and jewelleries and keep in pocket ↓ Unbutton the outer pocket and take out handwashing things ↓ Open the bag and take out the articles for procedures ↓ Wash the hands and dry with towels and keep it aside ↓ Carry out the nursing procedure
CONT…. Keep soiled swabs in paper bag and give for disposal to family members ↓ Keep the used instruments in unsterile pocket which are needed to sterilise ↓ After procedure need to hand wash again and dry it ↓ Close the bag properly and document the findings, procedures ↓ Carry the bag and fold the newspaper and place it in outer pocket
POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED….. 1 The bag and its contents should be cleaned very often, the supplies replaced and ready for use anytime. 2 3 The bag should contain all necessary articles , supplies and equipment that will be used to answer the emergency needs. The bag and its contents should be well protected from contact with any article in the patient’s home.
POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED….. 4 Don’t keep any personal things inside the bag such as books and snacks. 5 6 The arrangements of the contents of the bag should be the one convenient to the user, to facilitate efficiency and avoid confusions. Protect the bag while using it at home from handling by children and from dust.
