Punjab, a state bordering Pakistan, is the heart of India’s Sikh community. The city of Amritsar, founded in the 1570s by Sikh Guru Ram Das, is the site of Harmandir Sahib, the holiest gurdwara (Sikh place of worship). Known in English as the Golden Temple, and surrounded by the Pool of Nectar, it's a major pilgrimage site. Also in Amritsar is Durgiana Temple, a Hindu shrine famed for its engraved silver doors.

3. Introduction Punjab is land of five rivers in North West India. Punj means ( five) and aab means ( water), so Punjab means land of five waters . These five rivers named Beas, Satluj , Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum. Punjab is Divide in three regions:- Majha , Doaba and Malwa .

4. How was Punjab divided? After the partition of India in 1947, the Punjab province of British India was divided between India and Pakistan. The Indian Punjab was divided on the basis of language in 1966. It was divided into 3 parts.

8. Polity Q. How many political parties are there in Punjab? Three National parties in Punjab are Indian National Congress, Bhartiya Janta Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.  Two recognized state parties in Punjab are Lok Insaf Party and Shiromani Akali Dal .

The Punjab Legislative Assembly or the Punjab Vidhan Sabha (Punjabi: ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ) is the unicameral legislature of the state of Punjab in northern India. At present, it consists of 117 members, directly elected from 117 single-seat constituencies.

10. Polity How many MP are there in Punjab? There are total 13 lok sabha seats in Punjab and elected representative from each seat is called as MP or Member of Parliament. In Punjab, each lok sabha constituency has 9 assembly constituencies ( vidhan sabha seats) in it and there are total  117  seats in Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

13. Tourist Destinations Punjab is the place of Sikhism . The holiest of Sikh shrines, the Sri Harmandir Sahib (or Golden Temple), is in the city of Amritsar. The five Takhts (Temporal Seats of religious authority) of Sikhism, three are in Punjab. These are Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Damdama Sahib and Anandpur Sahib.
