Basic Life Support Vision Health Disater Safety in the Hands of the Community a.k.a “ Kaligtasang pang- Kalusugan sa Kalamidad sa Kamay ng Komunidad (5K)” Mission To support community health resilience building.

Guarantee uninterrupted health service delivery during emergencies and disasters; Avert prevenmtable morbidities, mortalities and other health effects secondary to emergencies and disasters; and 3. Ensure no outbreaks secondary to emergencies and disasters. GOAL

Recognition of signs of sudden cardiac arrest, heart attact, stroke and foreign body airway obstruction, and the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) with an automated external defibrillator.Cardiac arrest and accidents are the most coomon type of emergencies with grave cosenquences, but simple maneuvers and skills can improve the outcome, and immediate CPR can double or triple the chance of survival. (International Journal of Health Sciences) INTRODUCTION TO BLS

A set of emergency procedures that consist of recognizing respiratory or cardiac arrest and proper application of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) with or without Automated External Defibrillation(AED) or Foreign Body Airway Obstruction Management (FBAOM) and Rescue Breathing(RB) or maintain life until a victim recovers or advanced life support is available. Basic Life Support

The Circulatory System BODY SYSTEM

It delivers oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues and removes waste products. It consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. Circulatory system

Respiratory system

It delivers oxygen to the body,as well as removes carbon dioxide from the body. The passage of air into and out of lungs is called ventilation. Breathing in or inhalation is called expiration. The actual exchabge of oxygen and carbon dioxide in alveoli as well as the tissue of the body is called respiration. Respiratory system

Nervous system

It is composed of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. It has two major functions-communication and control. It lets a person be aware of and react to the environment. It coordinates the body’s responses to stimuli and keeps body systems working together. Nervous system

Time is critical

CPR- is a series of assessments and interventions using techniques and maneuvers made to bring victims of cardiac and respiratory arrest back life Cardiac Arrest- is the condition in which circulation ceases and vital organs are deprived of oxygen

WHEN TO START CPR IF YOU SEE A VICTIM WHO IS: Unconscious/Unresponsive Not breathing or has no normal breathing(only gasping) No definite pulse When Not To Start CPR All victims of cardiac arrest should receive CPR unless: Patient has a valid DNAR( Donot Attempt Resuscitation)order. Patient has signs of irreversaible death No physiological benefit can be expected because the vital functions have deteriorated as in septic or cardiogenicshock .

4. Confirmed gestation of <23 weeks or birthweight ,400 grams, anencephaly . 5. Attempts to perform CPR would place the rescuer at risk of physical injury. When to STOP CPR S-SPONTANEOUS signs of circulation are restored T-TURNED over to medical sevices or properly trained and authorized personnel O- OPAREATOR is already exhausted and cannot continue CPR P-Physical assumes responsibility(declares death, takes over., etc .) S- SCENE –become unsafe S-Signed waiver to stop CPR.
