Flow of Presentation
Foundation of Human Skill
Basic of Human Nature
Influence of Heredity & Environment
Basic dimensions of individual interaction in
society

What is skill?
“Skill is the ability to translate knowledge into action to get the
desired performance.”
Human skill:

1. Communication
Communication involves transmission and reception of messages. As
communicators, people use symbol to create messages.
2.Leadership:
Leadership is an interaction between persons in which one results
information of a sort and in such a manner that other becomes
convinced that his outcomes will improved if he behaves in the
manner desired.

“ personality will mean how people affect others and how they
understand and view themselves, as well as their pattern of inner and
outer measurable traits and the person-situation interaction. How
people affect others depends primarily on their external appearance
(height, weight, facial features, color, and other physical aspects)
and traits. In terms of external appearance, a very tall worker will
have an impact on other people different from that of a very short
worker. There is also evidence from meta-analysis that there are
gender differences in certain personality characteristics.”

“Human nature is the basis of character, the temperament
and disposition; it is that indestructible matrix upon
which the character is built, and whose shape it must
take and keep throughout life. This we call a person's
nature.”
The neurobiological substrates ofhuman
nature(basic needs, ego, and fear) imply several
things.

The basic nature of human beings does not and cannot
change. It is only the surface that is capable of alteration,
improvement and refinement; we can alter only people's
customs, manners, dress and habits. A study of history
reveals that the people who walked this earth in antiquity
were moved by the same fundamental forces, were swayed
by the same passions, and had the same aspirations as the
men and women of today. The pursuit of happiness still
engrosses mankind the world over.

Let’s take an example of a class of students in the 4th grade. They
are a noisy, loud bunch, with a teacher who tries hard to
discipline them. If the teacher's voice is very rigid she has a
fair chance of keeping the class quiet. As a result the class is
quiet only in her presence, but the moment she leaves the class
they are back to their mischievous ways. This is because these
children are basicallyrajasikandtamasik(the mind is more
reactive and is less analytical.)in nature

Although twin studies in general are open to criticism of political
influence and lack of scientific controls, most behavioral scientists
now agree that genes play a role not only in physical characteristics
and the brain, but also in personality.

Heredity what make us?
Nature v/s nurture
*Heredity and biology
*Environment life experience
e.g., Identical twins share the same template but have different “states”
Environment and life experience
*Plaster v/s plasticity
*Set like plaster
*Changes throughout adulthood

Views on theory
(a) Trait theories: Personality is set of mental systems, different
for each individual
(b) Humanist theories: Difficult to predict-lives are not
scripted-personalities are defined by their own different
perceptions and experiences.
(c) Behavioral theories: Personality is the constantly changing
set of learned behavior, influenced by reinforcements

What is society?
“A number of persons associated for any temporary
or permanent object; an association for mutual or
joint usefulness, pleasure, or profit; a social union; a
partnership; as, a missionary society.”
Basic dimensions of individual
interaction in society
[email protected]

There are twotype of dimensions:
1) Primary dimension 2) Secondary dimension
•Age
•Gender
•Nationality
•Physical & mental ability
(Primary Dimensions are
more visible to others)
•Communication Style
•Work Style
•Organizational Role
•Work Experience
•Education
•Family
•Status
•Attitudes
(Secondary Dimensions
undergo changes due to
the influences of
perception and learning)
