Lesotho was originally inhabited by local tribes of hunter –gathers called Khoisan known as (Baroa).Later came the Bantu tribes and eventually the Sotho-Tswana people .In 1822 King Moshoeshoe1 united the land under one rule for the first time. The founder of the Basotho nation

The Basotho associate and identify themselves through the use of their clan names which specify their ancestral origins namely the Bataung,Basia,Bafokeng,Makholokoe and Bakoena et al. The royal family of Lesotho is largely made up of Bakoena Basotho clans

Basotho blankets Many young boys spend a large part of lives as herdsmen while women and young girls do much of their work in the fields. Because of sharp variation in climate, both men and women wear blankets often multicolored which they use as cloaks

Basotho culture and practices Village life centres largely on the fields , the chief’s court ,the kraals, the church and the initiation lodge .Circumcision form an integral part of the ritualized initiation ceremonies that train boys to take their place as full members of the family .

Village life is dominated by basic agricultural tasks ,with heavy responsibilities falling on women. Craft work is still practiced in the villages and includes pottery and grass weaving. Basotho ways of living

How did Basotho dressed? Traditionally the Basotho had different ways of dressing depending on the age of an individual and or the occasion .Traditionally young girls would be dressed in neckpiece made out of clay beads known as sefaha sa letsopa and a dress made out of a clay beads known as thethana ea banana .

Basotho are also known for their head gear.The majority of this head gear is made out of straw and leaves while view are made from animal skins.Most commonly known of these is Mokorotlo . Basotho head gears

The traditional Lesotho house is called mokhoro and is build in the rondavel style.This word means circular and the houses are made with local materials. The walls are usually constructed from stones with mixture of sand, soil and dung . Basotho huts

In conclusion I would recommend that Basotho should continue to practice their past ways of living so that the coming generation will be able to know their culture and enjoy it, other than following cultures from other tribes. THANK YOU !!!!! CONCLUSION
