BAUDHAYAN SULBA SUTRAS

He was an Indian mathematician, who was most likely also a priest. He is noted as the author of the earliest Sulba Sutra—called the Baudhayana Sulbasutra . Giving rules for construction of Altars. He is older than the other famous mathematician like Apastambha . He was the first one to calculate the value of pi before pythagoras and discovering what is now known as the Pythagorean theorem. BAUDHAYAN (800 BC)

Its one of the oldest books on advanced Mathematics . Sulba sutras have a statement of the Pythagorean theorem in terms of the sides of a rectangle. Baudhāyana used a rope as an example- “ A rope stretched along the length of the diagonal produces an area which the vertical and horizontal sides make together”- simple Pythagorean triples. It gave g eometrical proof of the Pythagorean theorem for a right angle triangle. It gave precise calculation of (pi)π, with the closest value being 3.114. Also stated ways to tackle the problem of creating a circle having the same area as a square . BAUDHAYAN SULBA SUTRAS

Since most of the later proofs presented by Euclid and others are geometrical in nature, the Sulba Sutra’s numerical proof was unfortunately ignored. Āpastamba also provided the proof for Pythagoras theorem - again unfortunately his contribution also has been ignored. Pythagoras was wrongly credited by early Greek mathematicians for this theorem . Many historians have also presented evidence for the fact that Pythagoras actually travelled to Egypt and then India and learned many important mathematical theories including Pythagoras theorem.
