Beck Depression Inventory The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) is a 21-item, self-report rating inventory that measures characteristic attitudes and symptoms of depression. The BDI was first introduced in 1961, and it has been revised several times Beck et al. (1988) reported high internal consistency reliability of the instrument among both psychiatric and non psychiatric populations. The authors also reported that the BDI closely parallels the changes in both patient self-report and clinicians' ratings of depression
To measure and Diagnose the symptoms of depression in an individual. Requirement: 1 Record form, pencil/ pen is Required for the administration of BDI. Age limit: 13 to 80 years.
Beck Depression Inventory Procedure: it takes 10-15 minutes to administer this inventory. Peaceful environment is necessary for testing session. Investigator is obliged to give all the necessary instructions to the subject. BDI is an MCQs based test and subject has to select anyone option of each question by keeping in mind his condition of previous 2 weeks.
Beck Depression Inventory Scoring : Once you have calculated your total score, simply compare your score with the following categories : Scoring Criteria: 0-13 ( Minimum/Nil Depression) 14-19 (Mild Depression) 20-28 ( Moderate Depression) 29-63( Severe Depression)
