2. A bed and breakfast is a small accommodation that offers
overnight accommodation and breakfast. Bed and breakfasts are often
private family homes and typically have between four and eleven
rooms, with six being the average.

restaurant, or café.
Depending on guests income additional services
can be provided such as hot tubs, private baths, private
decks, rental vehicle.

4. CATAGORIES OF BED OF
BREAKFAST

True B&B falls into this category, and it usually consists of a home situated in a
residential area with one or two family members running the business. Spare bedrooms
are set aside for guests and breakfast is served by the hosts.

consist of small lodges or inns that are owned and operated by a host family. The hosts
live on site and might join the guests for breakfast.
These are operated on a larger scale, they can provide an alternative to a private home,
but guests should not expect the same level of interaction with the host family.

owners usually don’t live on site, and there is no interaction with a host
family.
•These operations have some form of lobby or front desk, where the visitor
checks in and out.

•They do not offer the friendly family environment.

accommodations followed by a fairly
standard breakfast.

recreational vehicles, and tents have all
been offered as B&Bs.

7. BED AND BREAKFAST POLICY

•BED AND BREAKFAST LICENSE is required if one or more rooms are
allow and full or continental breakfast are served.
•LODGING PLACE LICENSE is required if four or more rooms are allow
and no meals are served.
•EATING AND LODGING LICENSE is required if one or more rooms are
allow and meals other than a full or continental breakfast are served.
•PRIVATE WATER SUPPLY TESTING REQUIREMENT testing for
coliform bacteria, nitrate, nitrite, chloride, hardness, copper, iron, pH and
manganese.

9. In India, the government is promoting the concept of bed &
breakfast to increase tourism, especially keeping in view of the
demand for hotels during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in
Delhi.
They have classified B&Bs in 2 categories - Gold B&Bs, and
Silver B&Bs.
All B&Bs must be approved by the Ministry of Tourism, who
will then categorize it as Gold or Silver based upon a list of pre-
defined criteria.
Average B&B service providers are offering standard services.
The basics include: air-conditioner or air cooler, free food, and
free Wi-Fi internet.
