Everyone of us has seen
numerous kinds of beggars.
Some are blind, lame or
crippled.
Some people who have lost
their homes in natural
calamities or orphans
become beggars.
There are people who are
physically sounded and
take up the beggar
profession as heredity such
as in particular ‘ Gulguliyas’.

Biological Causes
Some people are physically handicapped or incapable
of doing any work. The only way of getting food open
to them is begging. Such beggars win easily sympathy
of others.

Religious Causes:-
Some People take begging due to religious sanction. In Hindus as well as in
Muslims, some religious teachers encourage people to become beggars. Many a
criminal finds refuge in the disguise of such religious ‘Sadhus’ & ‘Fakirs’. It is
indeed very difficult to distinguish between the Genuine Sadhus& Dongis.
Natural Calamities:-
There are about 40 lakh beggars in India.
Out of which :-
3 lakh beggars in Mumbai
75 thousand beggars in Kolkata
60 thousand beggars in Delhi
56 thousand beggars in Bengaluru
In Hyderabad 1 in every 345 are engaged with
beggary

They affect every single individual of society.
The future of child is ruined
It leads to prostitution, drug addiction and crime.
They are disturbing health system by spreading
communicable diseases.
They are disturbing economic system as there is
unequal distribution of wealth.

Laws dealing with beggary
should be strictly enforced.
Beggars should not be allowed
to stay in the public places like
railway stations, markets,etc.
Government should open
special clinics for the treatment
of leprosy and mental patients.
Underground beggar
organisation should be checked
by public and police and should
be given capital punishment.
The problem of beggary is a
knotty one. We have to fight it
from all sides. Only those who
are crippled, homeless, and
helpless should be helped.
Though, the problem is gigantic,
yet it can be solved, if there is
will and determination to do so.
By creating public opinion
against it and by passing certain
Government laws which will
make this profession a
punishable offence.
