Behavioral toxicity by komal Gul
Behavioral toxicity is the study of abnormal behavior that is caused by agents such as pharmaceuticals and chemicals (natural and synthetic) that are found in the environment or place of work.
Behavioral toxicity……..> intoxication hat impairs the users action and increase the danger to individual. It is effect of toxicants on behavior A n adverse behavioral change produced by psychotropic drugs, For example, insomnia, sedation, impaired psychomotor activity, or changes in mental status. Factors causes behavioral changes are Environmental chemicals, including heavy metals, solvents, fuels, pesticides, air pollutants, and even food additives.
Behavior Behavior is integrated outcome of nervous system Thus it is connection between nervous toxicity and behavior. Neural and behavior work separate because the workers in the fields used different methods
1: Chasing a toxicant can effect the time need to chase a prey 2: Catching A toxicant can effect the number of tries needed to catching a prey 3: Handling Affect the no. Of bites required to kill the prey 4: Swallowing Influence if the prey is swallowed most Feeding behavior
Pesticide enter in aquatic ecosystem causes fish death and other organism like turtles, frogs which are important in food chain Reduce availability of insect an plant that serve as food Long term exposure can cause abnormality and mutation in fish larvae Fish show restlessness, rapid body movement, difficulty in respiration, loss of balance Pesticides
Heavy metal Lead mercury and manganese are associated with unique syndrome, other metal such as Aluminium, selenium and thallium and tin are also been implicated adverse impact on behavior They range in severity from subjective complaints such as fatigue, depression, to clear neurological deficit such as tremor Manganese is specially intriguing . the earliest indication of toxicity is typically consist of psychological signs such as extreme emotional liability marked by abnormal crying or laughing .In American mining communities where manganese intoxication is endemic, the syndrome is known as “ locura manganica ” or manganese madness
Herbicide Reduce fish reproductive success Kill plant result low oxygen…………>suffocation
Endocrine disruption Disrupt endocrine system Endocrine disruption results in adverse affect on development of brain and nervous system , the growth and function of the reproductive system, and response to stressors in the environment.
