INTRODUCTION behavior therapy The term behavior therapy is applied psychological treatments based on experimental psychology and intended to change symptoms and behavior .It refers to a particular group of procedures based on operant conditioning.

Definition behavior therapy Behavioral therapy is an umbrella term for types of therapy that treat mental health disorders . This form of therapy seeks to identify and help change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors. It functions on the idea that all behaviors are learned and that unhealthy behaviors can be changed. The focus of treatment is often on current problems and how to change them .

OR behavior therapy It is the systematic application of scientific principles of learning and a form of psychotherapy ,aims at changing maladaptive behavior by substituting it with adaptive behavior.

P urposes behavior therapy Permanent change in behavior occurs as a result of practice or experience . Correction of the abnormal psycho-dynamics which are contributing the illness . Helpful even in those conditions which are refractory(stubborn) to other form of therapy.

Negative reinforcement behavior therapy You decide to clean up your mess in the kitchen (the behavior) to avoid getting into a fight with your roommate (removal of the aversive stimulus). On Monday morning, you leave the house early (the behavior) to avoid getting stuck in traffic and being late for class (removal of an aversive stimulus).

Nurses' role behavior therapy Devises (plan) behavioral objectives with the client. Identifies the behavior that is to be changed and breaks them down in to small and manage able segments. Advocates for clients identification behaviors that are appropriate, constructive and amenable to change whatever the treatment setting . Observe , documents and outline behavior targeted for change .

behavior therapy Teaches and reinforces cognitive – behavior techniques particularly in inpatient or community setting with a behavioral orientation. Teaches progressive relaxation to the client with anxiety , models , shapes and reinforces appropriate behavior.

behavior therapy Initiates and leads groups that focus on developing social skills and assertive behaviors . Refers the clients for cognitive behavior therapy . As a member of the interdisciplinary team , conducts 6-20 sessions for effective outcome .
