DECS 200/250

Description and Sequence of Operation 1. Energizing and Exiter control panel operation with the motor not running 380 VAC 3 phase, 4 wire is supplied at terminals Z2-1 thru Z2-4. Upon closing the 3 phase breaker CB-1, 220 VAC is C2 and C4 (Input power terminal of the DECS 200, and 220 VAC is also applied to the primary side of the 2 kVA CPT. The secondary side of CPT provides 120 VAC control power to DECS 200 at terminal B9 & B10, and also supplies120 VAC for pilot lamp, fans and relays used to compliment DECS 200 logic. When CB-1 closed, the pilot lamp DS1 on exiter panel door (ECP) is illuminated, cooling fans within ECP enclosure is running, and the relay ECR energized. When energized, ECR closes contacts 3 & 4 connected to terminals Z1-27 & Z1-28 which go on to provide the motor main breaker close circuit “52” with a permissive signal. ECR contacts 7 & 8 open when ECR energized, removing a trip signal from terminal Z1-21 & Z1-22. The trip signal (contact closed) is sent to the motor main breaker when that control power not present. With motor offline, and the DECS-200 energized, DECS-200 ready to operate and in this condition the programming and setting changes are possible

Description and Sequence of Operation 2. Motor Start up and no load ( Clutch open ) When motor main breaker closed, 52a contact also close between terminals Z1-4 and Z1-5. This energizes the coil of relay KK contacts 7 & 8 remove stop signal at DECS terminal A23 & A24, and contacts 1 & 2 apply a start signal on DECS terminals A21 & A22. DECS supplies predetermined excitation current at DECS terminals C5 & C6. Panel wiring from terminals C5 & C6 is connected to Volt trap, series of shunt and to panel terminals Z1-8 & Z1-9. Terminals Z1-8 & Z1-9 are connected through external wiring to exciter field on the motor. The motor accelerates and synchronizes. DECS continue to supply a predetermined excitation current, and remains in the FCR, Field Current Regulator mode. The Panel meters, DC amp, PF and VAR are wired to provide indications due to inputs from PTs, CTS, and shunt SH-2 55 Device, Relay CLR, CLRX and TD-2 are all de-energized during no load operation. Motor protection is provided by DECS through the contacts of internal relay #1 at DECS terminals A15 & A16. In event of “Loss of Field” for example, trip signal (contact closure) is taken from DECS terminals A15 & A16 through the panel wiring to panel terminals Z1-21 & Z1-22. From there trip signal is taken to the motor main breaker trip circuit by external wiring

Description and Sequence of Operation 3. Closing clutch and loaded operation With motor running and synchronized, a 120 VAC “Clutch Close” signals received on panel terminals Z1-10 & Z1-11. Relay CLR close, causing following changes: >>CLR contacts 1 & 9, 2 & 11 and 6 & 10 switch DECS out of FCR mode and into auto or AVR mode. >>Relay CLRX is close by CLR contacts 8 & 12. CLRX is necessary because CLR doesn’t have enough contact to perform all the required switching. >>CLRX in turn : 1. Starts the timer TD-2 with contacts 1 & 2. 2. Energizes the 55 sync pull out relay with terminals 3 & 4 3. Enables 55 sync pull out relay to trip with contacts 7 & 8 With CLR and CLRX closed and with TD-2 not yet timed out , DECS is in AVR mode. Set point in this mode has been intentionally set above nominal line voltage. DECS attempts to achieve the set point by increasing exciting current, providing an instantaneous boost as the clutch is closed. The time set on TD-2 is very small, about 1 second. When TD-2 times out, TD-2 contacts 7 & 8 and 9 &10, place DECS in the power factor control mode. DECS control exciting current to achieve a preset power factor.
