Population Distribution

Melting-pot Belize is a melting pot of various ethnicities co-habiting in harmony.  Ethnic Group Year of Arrival Maya   2500 B.C. Kriols ( Creole )  1800'S Garifuna   1802 Mestizo 1847 East Indian, Syrian, Lebanese 1858 Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean 1865 Mennonite (Dutch/German farmers) 1958

Maya(11%)

Yucatan A Nahuatl (Aztec) word, which means "place of richness." Now one of the 31 states of Mexico.

Kriols ( Creole )(25%)

Garifuna (6%)

Mestizos (34%) and Spanish(15%)

6 Districts Belize District Cayo District Corozal District Orange Walk District Stann Creek District Toledo District These districts are further divided into 31 constituencies.

Other groups(9%) A mix of Mennonite farmers, Indians, Chinese , whites from the United States and Canada, and many other foreign groups brought to assist the country's development.
