2. What is it ? Belles-lettres is a category of writing, originally meaning beautiful or fine writing. The phrase is sometimes used for writing that focuses on the aesthetic qualities of language rather than its practical application.  It includes various forms of imaginative writing such as poetry, fiction, and drama, emphasizing creativity, originality, and a subjective exploration of human experiences. The purpose   of the belles- lettres style is to suggest a possible interpretation of the phenomenon of life by forcing the reader to see the point of veiw of the writer .

3. Typical characteristics of the belles- lettres style There are no unique characteristics as this style, it is not similar ; it contains vocabulary and syntax of different registers and styles . Aesthetic Focus: Emphasis on the beauty of language , style , and artistic expression . Literary Devices :   Incorporates literary devices such as metaphors , similes , symbolism , and allegory to enhance the expressive power of the writing . Focus on Individual Expression: Encourages reflection and thought , inviting readers to engage with the text on a deeper level . Emotional Deepness : Aims to evoke deep emotions and connect with readers on a personal and emotional level .

4. The Belles-lettres comprises three sub-styles. They are the following:  1. The language style of poetry : we have in there ballad, ode, pastoral, sonnet, epigram, etc.  2. Emotive prose or the language style of fiction : in there we find stories, speech, novels, etc. 3. The language style of drama : comedy, tragedy, drama, etc.

5. The language of poetry : Rhythmic and phonetic arrangement .  Syntactical and semantic peculiarities . Rhythm and rhyme are the properties which make poetry different from emotive and the drama. Emotional coloring . The emotional element is characteristic of the belles- lettres style in general, but , poetry has it in full measure due to the great number of emotionally colored words . The poetry stands out for lyrical expresion , careful use of the language and attention ti musicality . Poetry seeks to give emotions and idea in an artistic manner , ofter through meter, rhyme and metaphor .

7. Emotive prose : I n the belles-lettres style seeks to elicit strong emotions through carefully crafted language . This substyle has the same characteristic as have been pointed out for the belles- lettres style in general, but they are correlated differently . The combination of the literary language with the colloquial language . Rich   illustrations ; not as rich as in poetry . Words with contextual meaning . It allows the use of elements from other styles ( the newspaper style , the official style , the scientific prose ). Use of Literary Devices : Poetic forms in belles- lettres employ various literary devices , such as metaphors , similes , alliteration , and personification , to enhance the expressive and aesthetic qualities of the language . Emotional Intensity: Poems in the belles- lettres style often aim to evoke strong emotions in the reader , exploring the depth of human experience through expressive language .

The language of drama: Drama is the language of plays which contain communication , any representation of a play is an   aesthetic procedure ; an d it has the following peculiarities : It presents the   variation of spoken language . It is stylized of colloquial language . No interruptions of the speaker. Sequence sentences , connected by sequence signals         ( pronouns , adverb , conjuctions .) The Drama focuses on dialogue, characters, and conflicts to tell stories, also, Drama aims to evoke emotions and reflections in the audience through acting an d stories .
