Introduction Today lifestyle disorders are the challenge for all of us, as they are silently entering in our day-to-day life affecting the health. So they are known as ‘silent killer’ now a days. These days modern dietetics emphasizes more on calorie intake without considering any other factors. Daily diet habits have biggest impact on our health. It is much need that, rather than focusing on the calorie intake & some deficiencies; there should be proper incorporation of diet which not only can prevent many preventable disorders but plays major role in the management of diseases.
Cont... Aahar, Nidra, Bramhacharya are three basic pillars of life and they are also called as Trayopstambha . Out of these three, Acharyas have given significant importance to Aahar by putting it on the first place. In Samhita it is mentioned that ‘ Shiryate Iti Sharira’ i.e.in our day-to-day life while performing activities there is more or less depletion of Dhatu takes place. And the dhatu poshan starts with the aahar-rasa. Therefore, for proper aahar-rasa formation we need to consume proper food. Sushruta has mentioned that Aahar is basic for ones Bala, Varna and Ojas. A ccording to Chakark Samhita Aahar is life for all living individuals and whole world seeks food, individuals complexion, good quality of life, longevity, voice, intelligence, happiness, satisfaction, growth and strength, all depends on food we consume. Charaka while describing rules for taking Aahar, has mentioned eight factors in Vimansthana, they are also called as ‘ Ashtavidha ahar vidhi visheshaytana’ . Sushruta and Vagbhata have also mentioned the twelve rules regarding dietetics called as ‘Ahar vidhi vidhan’. S o according to Ayurveda, food is responsible for the growth and development of an individual if it is consumed in proper way,
What is rasa 1.Rasa Nirukti ‘ Rasyate aswadyate anen iti rasa’ That means particular sense object, which is perceived by tongue (rasanendriya) is called rasa, that can be perceived by rasanendriya called Rasa. Rasa action occurs immediately after exposure to Rasanendriya.
Shadrasa Utpatti Generally, shadrasa can be divided into two categories. 1)Ruksha / Daurbalyajana 2) Snigdha / Balakarak Northen solisice :- Adan kala i.e. Uttarayan comprises shishira, vasant, grishma season (January to July). Sun & wind became very strong. It absorbs snehansh and it becomes dry during this half of the year. Tikta, Kashaya, Katu rasa are more powerful. Southern solistice :- Dakshinayan i.e. Visarga kala comprises varsha, sharad, Hemant. Moon is more powerful. Sour, salty & sweet are dominant respectively during the visarga kala.

Having food with only one rasa in excess is best to cause debility. The habit of using all six tastes every day is ideal for maintenance of health. Habitual intake of diets consisting of all tastes in proportionate quantity will leads to balanced state of tridosha in the body. Consumption all all tastes is superior, & that of only one taste is inferior. In between that substance conducive to an individual is called “Satmya”, and consumption of such substances results in the wellbeing of that individual. . Shadrasa in sama-praman It is not mean like that; all rasas should be equal in quantity according to weight & volume. It means – according to prakruti, age, season etc. How much quantity of shadrasa needed for person to keep oneself swastha that is the equal quantity rasa for that individual.So, the quantity of rasa for any individual is different according to his prakruti. But its sure that all rasas should be present in our ahara to maintain swasthya.
