M.Sc. (Dietetics & Nutrition ) M.Sc. (Dietetics & Nutrition) is a two-year program designed to enhance knowledge and skills of students in nutrition and to develop critical evaluation skills in them through an integration of knowledge of public Health, Community Nutrition, Patient Counseling and research in the field of dietetics. It provides an opportunity for interaction with patients, and thus, students get hands-on training in hospitals. Students are also taught advanced diet therapy and participate in symposiums, and conferences in nutrition & dietetic.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE To train and produce postgraduates in the field of Dietetics and Nutrition who are recognized for their practical and public health skills. To well acquaint these postgraduates with the expanding frontiers and ever increasing demands of advanced clinical nutrition, understand the basis of nutritional status assessment, biochemical basis of nutrition, nutrition related disorders, role of nutrition in therapeutic diets. The students will also learn about the new and expanding areas of research in the field of dietetics and nutrition and acquire necessary research oriented skills.
PROGRAMME OUTCOME To acquaint postgraduates with advanced clinical nutrition, understand the basis of nutritional status assessment, biochemical basis of nutrition, nutrition related disorders, and the role of nutrition in therapeutic diets. The course also aims at teaching skills of menu planning for quality and quantity preparation and management of resources. The students also learn about new and expanding areas of research in the field of dietetics and nutrition and acquire necessary research oriented skills.
1ST SEMESTER Fundamentals of Dietetics Human Nutrition-I Food Science Life Cycle Nutrition Nutritional Biochemistry Human Physiology
2ND SEMESTER Clinical and Therapeutic Nutrition –I Human Nutrition –II Community Nutrition-I Food Analysis Food Service Management Food Microbiology Research methodology
ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA Duration: 2 years. A Bachelor's degree in Science or Home Science with not less than 50% marks in aggregate from any recognized University. Note: 5% weight age will be given for merit to the candidates passing Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management.
Note : The Fee will have to be deposited at the time of Counselling. University Charges will be extra as per University norms. Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances. There will be an annual increase of 7% in tuition fees. Students Fund for all the students is Rs 2,000/- p.a. Lifetime Alumni Membership fee is Rs 4,000/-. Hostel & Transport Charges will be extra. Students who wish to leave the Institute mid-stream, will have to deposit the fee for the remaining period of the course as per judgement of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of Islamic Academy of Education and others Vs State of Karnataka & PA lnamdar case.
