Fresh water fishes of bangladesh Genus : Aristichthys nobilis

Introduction: The bighead carp is a species of freshwater fish. The bighead carp has a large, scaleless head, a large mouth and eyes. It is a large fish, typically it’s length is 60cm. Bighead carp are native to the large rivers. It is one of the most intensively exploited fishes in aquaculture.

Hab its & habitats: The bighead carp has a very fast growth rate. Unlike the common carp, bighead carp are primarily filter feeders. They are primarily consume zooplankton but also phytoplankton and detritus.

Economic importance : 1. Bighead carp is of considerable economic importance as source of protein. 2. This carp is a primary consumer and breeds well in captivity. 3. It is an additional aset in its culture. Distribution: Fresh and brakish waters of Bangladesh , India, Myanmers , Nepal, Pakistan, Srilanka , Malay Archipelago, Syria and West Africa.

1. It control the population of harmful insects in the environmental through it’s feeding habit. 2. It also helps to control water pollution by eating detrius . 3. This species is a competitor for food and space to the indigenous Catla & Rohu . Ecological role :
