Introduction Cristina Gonçalves was born on 15 September 1977, in Lisbon, Portugal. When she was 11 months, Cristina contracted meningitis resulting in cerebral palsy. She is a portuguese boccia player and she won several medals at the Summer Paralympics.
Her career Cristina Gonçalves began competing in boccia in 1998. She is classified as BC2 (Paralympic boccia classification). Her first victory came in 2003 in the boccia World Cup, in New Zealand. She attended her first Summer Paralympics in 2004, in Athens, Greece, where she won a gold medal with a victory over New Zealand. In 2008, she won a silver medal at the Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China, but at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, in London, she didn’t win any medal.
Her career At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Cristina and her team won a bronze medal after defeating Argentina. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics she didn't win any medals, but she placed in ninth place in the individual category and in fourth place in the pair/team category.
