3 Erik Homburger Erikson (Erik Salomonsen ) Born on June 15, 1902 in Germany Artist, Psychologist, Psychoanalyst, Clinician, Professor, Anthropologist, Existentialist, and etc. His parents are Karla Abrahamsen and Theodor Homburger (stepfather) Known for Post-Freudian Theory (Psychosocial Development and identity crisis)
4 Important Events in Erikson’s Life (Timeline) 1911 – He was officially adopted by his stepfather 1920 – He started wandering about Europe, searching and drifting
5 c. 1926-1930 - He returned home confused, exhausted and unable to sketch or paint - He got the chance to teach children in Vienna School (one of the founders is Anna Freud) - He married Joan Serson (Canadian-born dancer, artist and teacher) - Had four children named Kai, Jon, Neil and Sue - He failed to take good care of Neil who was born with Down Syndrome
6 1933 - He left Vienna for D enmark , then left Copenhagen and immigrated in US - Settled in Boston and set up modified psychoanalytic practice - He accepted research positions at H arvard M edical School and Harvard Psychological Clinic He took position in Yale - Later lived in Northern California where he published “Childhood and Society”
7 1949 – He left California and returned in Massachusetts and worked as a therapist. 1960 to his late years - He returned to Harvard as professor of human development for 10 years. - After retirement, he continued to write, lecture and see few patient. - Erikson continued to seek his father’s name. - He died on May 12, 1994 at the age 0f 91.
