Introduction to blind stitch sewing machine Blind stitch sewing machine for blind stitching is a special type of sewing machine which is used in the garments industries to produce stitches is not seen on the face side of the fabric is called blind stitch sewing machine. Usually curved needle is used in this machine as it can penetrate in the fabric partially. This machine is used for blind stitch hem and attaching the lining to the waistband. Blind sewing machine stitches represent high quality and perform equally well on light to heavy fabrics.
WHAT IS A BLIND STITCH? A blind stitch in sewing is a method of joining two pieces of fabric so that the stitch thread is invisible, or nearly invisible. Blind stitching hides stitching under folded edges; therefore, this type of stitch can be used to create a blind hem or to join two folded edges together. Blind hem stitches are completely hidden on the front of the garment and almost completely hidden on the inside of the garment. The sewer catches only a few threads of the fabric each time the needle is pulled through the fabric, which means that the majority of the stitching is hidden inside the hem. Blind stitching is useful when joining two folded edges together, as the thread is only visible when the folded material is pulled away. This technique allows the sewer to invisibly attach pockets, facings and trimmings to a garment. A slip stitch or catch stitch can be used to create the blind stitch, except that they are worked inside the hem, 1 ⁄ 8 to 1 ⁄ 4 inch (3.2 to 6.4 mm) away from the edge of the hem fabric.
FEATURES OF BLIND STITCH MACHINE Off-stitch prevention: Off-stitch can be prevented because this is stepped part detection type. Guide fix: table seam can be obtained and very beautiful sewing will result because the blind-hemming guide is fixed securely with the solenoid during sewing Easy guide operation: The blind-hemming guide is raised by pressing the knee switch lightly and manual raising is unnecessary, and the beautiful sewing finish. Easy interchanging to plain sewing (with TC device only): When CH device swings out frontward and the lever of TC device moves to plain sewing direction, the tension changes from blind hemming to plain sewing and easy plain sewing is possible. Easy cleaning: Swing-out type of CH device can be easy to clean the device. More technical features are listed below : sewing speed is up to 3000 stitches/min Clearance between needle and looper point machine which can be easily lever adjusted when changing the needle count. Fabric penetration by the curved needle is partial.
1. BLIND STITCH - Blind stitch machine makes a 1 thread stitch which on the face side of the fabric appears to be hidden. 2. HAND ROLL BLIND STITCH - Hand roll Blind stitch is a specialized machine designed to produce a small rolled stitch on the edge of fabric to resemble hand stitching such as is often found on scarves. 3. LOCKSTITCH BLIND STITCH - Lockstitch Blind stitch machine is similar to the Blind stitch machine except that it locks each individual stitch, creating a stronger and more durable stitch. This machine, with a top bobbin and curved needle is used to make suit jacket seams. THREE BASIC TYPES OF BLIND STITCH MACHINE

How Do You Use A Blind Stitch On A Sewing Machine? Press the raw edge by about ¼ inch or zigzag it if you’re using a heavy fabric Press the edge again by the seam allowance and pin Fold the hem backward, so you’ll be left with around ⅛ inch of material poking out the edge Select the blind stitch setting on the sewing machine with the stitch set to 2 in width and length Remove the current foot and put in the blind hem foot on the sewing machine Place the fabric under the machine and align the foot guide with the folded edge Begin sewing as usual and then fold the hem down to pull the stitches vertically
MAIN COMPONENTS OF BLIND STITCH MACHINE ADJUSTMENT POINTS: Thread Tension Needle Pressure feed Stitch density Looper. NEEDLE MOTOR BELT PRESSER FOOT FEED DOG LOOPER SKIP STITCH SELECTOR RIDGE FORMING REGULATOR
Hold the fabric Keep feeding smoothly. PRESSER FOOT BLIND STITCH NEEDLE It is curve in shape in order to successively penetrate partially into the fabric and then into the hem edge. It is minimally shown on right side of the garment. Needle size:-LWx6T(11-18) A derivative of stitch type 101 is stitch type 103 known as single thread Blind stitch or Blind hemming. The needle thread inter loops with a blind looper on the surface of the material. BLIND STITCH FORMATION
It catches the loop form by needle thread and help in forming stitch. It is situated above the bed of the machine BLIND STITCH LOOPER RIDGE FORMING REGULATOR To obtain desired depth of felling stitch A total of 12 thread guides. Thread tension should be as weak as possible without loosing good balance of sewing. THREADING MOTION OF FEED DOG :
WORKING PRINCIPLE The stitch produced by this machine in the fabric is not shown from face side and so this is called blind stitch machine. Usually curved needle is used in this machine as it can penetrate in the fabric partially. The needle comes out from the side of the fabric through which it penetrated. Again in maximum blind stitch machine optional skip device is attested by which it is possible to penetrate the outside layer after one or two stitch. The speed of this type of machine is up to 2500 SPM and the stitch length can be 3 to 8 mm long. Usually one thread is used to make the stitch but two threads may also be used. In case of two threads blind stitch, it is safe from opening. Mainly for attaching hemming or facing this machine is used.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
How Do You Use A Blind Stitch Sewing Machine? Refer to the manual of the specific blind stitch sewing machine you have Turn on the motor and power switch Fold the cloth in two and insert it into the blind-hemming guide of the machine Pull the guide down horizontally and raise the presser foot Place the fabric under the foot, then lower the foot to secure it for sewing The blind-hemming guide on the machine will be fixed with the solenoid, so when the stepped part passes through it, the slide edge guide will move to the right Push the knee switch to raise the blind-hemming guide when the starting point is getting near to the guide Finish your stitches
STANDARD ADJUSTMENT OF HEMMING OPERATION Adjust the differential feeding amount depending on a fabric. To set the blind-hemming edge guide as standard, align the left side of the slide edge guide with that of the needle Loosen the adjusting lever (1) and turn the adjusting screw depending on the stitch depth. To make the stitch deep, turn the adjusting screw (2) towards right. To make the stitch shallow, turn the adjusting screw (2) to the left. After setting the blind-hemming edge guide, fix the adjusting level (1) Make the standard height of the blind-hemming edge (3) 2mm above the top of the cloth plate. Loosen the screw (4) to adjust the height to feed a heavy weight fabric smoothly. Loosen the screw (5) and move the hemming positioner (6) right or left to adjust the hemming width.
APPLICATION Blind stitching hides stitching under folded edges; therefore, this type of stitch can be used to create a blind hem or to join two folded edges together For sewing all types of light to medium-weight materials including synthetics, knits and woollens. Typical sewing operations include pant cuffs, felling slack bottoms, hemming dresses, skirt and coat bottoms, draperies, negligees, undergarments, lapel padding, blouses and sleeves. Ideal for alteration rooms, clothing rentals, dry cleaners, department stores, dressmakers and home use.
DISADVANTAGES It uses a bobbin to provide the lower thread. 2. Bobbin can only contain a limited length of that thread. 3. Running out of thread is very poor, where a join is visually unacceptable. 4. Major problems occur on bobbin running, which involved loss of stitching. 5. Unsuitability for edge neatening.
