TYPES OF BLOOD DONORS 1)Voluntary non-remunerated donors 2)Replacement or relative donors 3)Professional paid donors
Voluntary non-remunerated donors They donate blood without any pressure or for monetary benefit for unknown patients.
Advantages Belong to low risk category. Donors directory can be maintained and they can called at the time of need.
REPLACEMENT OR RELATIVE DONORS Relatives or friends of the patients replace the no.of units of blood used by him.
DRAWBACKS They often insist on transfusing their blood to their patient called directed donation which should not be advocated.
PROFESSIONAL PAID DONORS They receive direct or indirect monetary benefit for blood they donate.
DISADVANTAGES May not reveal their illness. May donate more frequently.
