BODY COMPOSITION
WHAT IS BODY COMPOSITION? BODY COMPOSITION DESCRIBES THE RELATIVE PROPORTIONS OF FAT, BONE, MUSCLE MASS IN THE HUMAN BODY. 2
PERCENT BODY FAT PROPORTIONAL AMOUNT OF FAT IN THE BODY BASED ON THE PERSONS TOTAL WEIGHT INCLUDES BOTH ESSENTIAL AND STORAGE FAT.
LEAN BODY MASS ALSO KNOWN AS THE “FAT-FREE COMPOENT” BECAUSE IT MEASURES EVERYTHING IN THE BODY BESIDES THE FAT.
RECOMMENDED BODY WEIGHT BODY WEIGHT AT WHICH THERE SEEMS TO BE NO HARM TO HUMAN HEALTH (HEALTHY WEIGHT).
TWO TYPES OF Fat ESSENTIAL FAT -(male=3%-6%), (female=8%-12% OF BODY MASS) ESSENTIAL FAT CONSISTS OF FAT IN YHE HEART, LUNGS, LIVER, SPLEEN, KIDNEYS, INTESTINES, MUSCLES AND LIPID-RICH TISSUES OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AND BONE MARROW. 2. STORAGE FAT – THE FAT WHICH IS STORED IN THE ADIPOSE TISSUES, MOSTLY BENEATH THE SKIN(subcutaneous fat) AND AROUND THE MAJOR ORGANS IN THE BODY.
HEIGHT, WEIGHT, AND BMI (body mass index) HEIGHT - IT IS MEASURED BY STADIOMETER WEIGHT – IT IS MEASURED BY WEIGHTING SCALE BMI – MEASURED BY FOLLOWING EQUATION 7

OBESITY 9
OBESITY 10 Obesity is a medical condition, sometimes considered a disease, in which excess body fat has accumulated to such an extent that it can potentially have negative effects on health. Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. A body mass index (BMI) over 25 is considered overweight, and over 30 is obese.
11
What causes obesity? Fast and convenience foods. In communities and families where highly-processed fast and convenience foods are dietary staples, it’s easy to consume a lot of calories. Sugar is in everything. The food industry is not designed to maintain our health. It’s designed to sell products that we will become addicted to and want to buy more of. High on that list of products are sweets and sugary drinks, which have no nutritional value and a lot of added calories. Hormones. Hormones regulate our hunger and satiety signals. Many things can disrupt these regulatory processes, including common things like stress and lack of sleep and less common things like genetic variations. Hormones can cause you to continue to crave more food even when you don’t need any more calories.
