Notebook Doodle In Boston, Massachusetts, in 1770, the colonists were not very happy. British soldiers had been sent to keep an eye on the people of Boston—soldiers in their red uniforms carrying muskets were everywhere. The soldiers were not too happy to be in Boston either. They would have rather been at home in England. As you can imagine, trouble was on the way with so many people angry at each other. It came on March 5, 1770. We don’t know exactly what started the fight between the soldiers and the townspeople. Some say that kids were throwing snowballs at soldiers. Others say the snowballs had rocks in them. A fight broke out, shots were fired, and by the time the fight ended, five colonists were dead. One of the dead was a Black man by the name of Crispus Attucks. He and the other four men were buried together in Boston. They were the first to die in the American Revolutionary War. {Teacher reads, students draw} Extra time?
