BOUNDARIES OF FLANK AND PARA LUMBAR FOSSA
NON BONY WALL OF ABDOMEN {FLANK} Superiorly: By Sixth Inter Coastal space Inferiorly : Iliac crest Posterior and Anterior : Axillary lines Laterally 2 Lateral Softer part of Abdominal Cavity and has Triangular Depression BOUNDARIES OF FLANK
BOUNDARIES OF PARALUMBAR FOSSA Superiorly: Longissimus dorsi muscle Anteriorly: Posterior border of last rib Inferiorly : Obliqus abdominis internus muscle Clinical importance of the paralumbar fossa Para lumbar fossa is a site for incision of abdomen for laparotomy For conducting rumenotomy, to reel ruminal movements, to palpate rumen and conduct laparatomy on left side On right side it is a site for enterotomy and caecal biopsy Observe different layers of abdominal wall i.e., skin, cutaneous muscle, tunica flava abdominis, obliqus abdominis externus and internus, rectus abdominis (only in floor), transverses abdominis and parietal peritoneum
Sites for biopsy Liver biopsy is difficult in the horse because of the great expanse of the lung. The usual site is the 12 th Intercoastal space on the right , in a line from tuber coxae to the point of the shoulder. In the bovine, an area at the junction of upper and middle third of 10 th or 11 th inter coastal space on the right side as a liver is located on the right side of abdominal cavity. 2.Gall Bladder Biopsy 1.Liver Biopsy Ventral part of 11 th inter coastal space on right side as gall bladder project beyond right border of liver in cattle.
5 3. Caecal Biopsy Right side at pelvic inlet or pelvic brim.
