Introduction of Brachial Plexus Formation Branches of Brachial Plexus Content

What is Plexus? Plexus is the bundle of any intersecting nerve blood vessel in human body

Introduction The Brachial Plexus is a network of nerve fiber that supplies the skin and musculature of upper limb.

Formation of Brachial Plexus Consist of 5 parts:- Roots Trunk Divisions Cords Branches

Brachial Plexus: Roots Constituted by anterior Primary rami of spinal Nerve C5; C6; C7;C8; And T1

Brachial Plexus: Roots Fiber of C4 and T2 may Also contribute Prefixed Plexus Large contribution from C4 but not from T2

Brachial Plexus: Roots Postfixed plexus contribution from T2 But C4 is absent

Brachial Plexus: trunks C5 and C6:- Upper trunk C7 :-Middle trunk C8 and T1:-Lower trunk

Brachial Plexus: Division Each trunk divides Into two part:- Ventral division Dorsal division These supply to Anterior and posterior aspect of limb

Brachial Plexus: Cords Division joins to form Cords Ventral division of upper and middle trunk: lateral cord Ventral division of lower trunk : Medial cord Dorsal division of all trunk : posterior cord

Brachial Plexus: Branches From Roots : Long thoracic nerve ( C5 ;C6 ;C7) Nerve to rhomboids or Dorsal scapular nerve ( C5)

Brachial Plexus: Branches From Trunk : Only from upper trunk Suprascapular nerve (C5 ;C6) – supplies Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus muscles Nerve to Subclavius (C5 ;C6)

Brachial Plexus: Branches From Lateral Cord: Lateral pectoral nerve ( C5 ;C7) Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5; C7) Lateral root of median (C5; C6; C7)

Brachial Plexus: Branches From Medial Cord: Medial pecctoral nerve (C8; T1) Medial cutaneous nerve of Arm(C8;T1) Medial cutaneous nerve of forarm (C8;T1) Median root of median Nerve (C8; T1) Ulnar nerve (C7 ;C8 ;T1)

Brachial Plexus: Branches From Posterior Cord: Upper subscapular (C5;C6) Nerve to latissimus dorsi (C6; C7; C8) Lower subscapular (C5; C6) Axillary Nerve (C5; C6) Radial Nerve (C5; C6; C7; C8; T1)

Location of Brachial Plexus Roots:- Passes between Anterior and medial scalenus Muscles Trunks:- Transverse Laterally ,crossing posterior Triangle of neck Divisions:- leave the Triangle and passes behind clavicle

Location of Brachial Plexus Cords:- These are placed a round and named after their relationship with secondPart of axillary artery. Thus lateral cord lies lateraly , Posterior cord posteriorly And medial cord medialy to Axillary artery.

Blood supply of Brachial plexus Vertebral artery Thyrocervical trunk With its branches Suprascapular artery Transverse cervical artery
