st
October
Mentor Teacher: Saakshi Khanna
Student Squad: Navdha Sharma, Laksh Rawal, Divpreet Singh,
Taranpreet Kaur, Saloni Sachdeva, Arushi Babbar, Aman Malhotra and

Step 1: FEEL
·Every time we went around the campus we saw litter thrown here and there. So we
decided to do something about it and took it up as a challenge.
·We went around the school, checked the classrooms and found out that students
littered their desks even though there were dustbins. They threw wrappers in the
corridors and even left paper plates on the window sills during recess.
·Sometimes children made balls out of the newspaper to throw it at each other. Bits
of newspapers pieces were also found lying under the tables and chairs.
·The condition of the school and the attitude of the students really troubled us and
we decided to talk to the principal to take up some measures to maintain
cleanliness and hygienic surrounding in the school campus.
Step 2: IMAGINE
·We discussed the problem with our mentor teacher and decided to
-make two dustbins per class
-go from class to class creating awareness about cleanliness
-writing slogans and making posters for each class.
-maintaining a cleanliness record for each day
-displaying the name of the ‘cleanest class’ on the notice board.
Step 3: DO
·We called for a meeting with the teacher in charges and briefed them about the
project.
·Eight students were selected as members of the cleanliness committee.
·They were divided into pairs. Each pair was given charge of a particular area.
·They were responsible for checking the class rooms, corridors and the ground
thrice a day.

·A tabular chart was prepared and given to each of the pairs to keep a record.
(Appendix 1)
·Class teachers talked to the students about cleanliness and maintaining their
surroundings. Two cleanliness monitors were made in each section to ensure
cleanliness of their class.
·Each class was asked to make two dustbins using empty cartons and other waste
material, and one poster. These dustbins were placed in the corridors and stair
cases.
·Everyday for a week, the cleanliness committee took rounds and submitted their
report to the teacher incharge.
·At the end of the week, the data was collated and the class that was found to be the
cleanest was given a certificate of appreciation.
·We could see a lot of change in the school premises. Students were seen picking
up the trash and throwing it in the dustbin.
·They kept the class furniture in order.
·They enjoyed making the dustbins and proudly wrote the name of their class.
·The project helped to sensitize all the students towards their responsibility towards
their school and environment.
