Definition the inflammation of breast parenchyma which leads to the collection of pus beneath the skin forming a pus filled pocket called breast abscess. 2
causes Bacterial cause is most common. Staphylococcus aureus. Bacteria invades the breast tissue by entering through the skin laceration. Invades fatty tissue. Closure of lactiferous sinuses due to epithelialization. Abscess formation and pressure on lactiferous ducts. 3
types Lactating abscess: In first 6 weeks of breast feeding. Drainage of milk is reduced causing stagnant milk to become infected Non lactating abscess: Central Peripheral 4

9 MANAGMENT Antibiotics Co- amoxiclav 375mg 8h Clarithromycin 500mg 12h Metronidazole Abscess is aspirated or incised and drained Encourage woman to breastfeed to promote milk drainage
