Breathing in New Life: Part 3 Genesis Chapter 2

Genesis chapter 2 gives us additional insights into the creation of the world which we discussed in chapter 1. God's creation of our world marks the beginning of time as we know it. Characters: - God - The Creator of the universe, earth, animals, man, and woman. - The First Man (Adam) - God created man from the dust of the ground. - The First Woman (Eve) - God created woman from a rib taken from the man.

Where? (2:8). No one knows for sure! Where God planted this garden. Our best hint is the names of the 4 rivers. Flowed from Eden: the Pishon(pEE-shawn), the Gihon(gee-uhn), the Tigris, and the Euphrates (2:10-14).

Why don’t we know where it is? We are banished Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.”

Why don’t we know where it is? Noah's flood The floods devastation on the earth Movement of the sedimentary strata(Grand Canyon) Tigris, and the Euphrates possibly renamed Some people have different opinions on its location(Turkey, Middle East, Nile River None of these match exactly. Due to there were four rivers. Which had come from one head.

DAY 7 (2:1-3): After finishing His creation in 6 days, God rested on the 7th. God blessed the 7th day and made it holy. God set the example for us Guard your rest The prevention of Spiritual tiredness

THE CREATION OF MAN (2:4-7): Chapter 2 gives us more details about how God created men and women. Man was created from the dust of the ground. God gave him a soul by breathing life into his nostrils. Genesis 3:19 “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.””

God formed every part of his creation with his word God formed us separate from the dust of the earth God gave Adam a soul by breathing Life into his nostrils Ezekiel 37:1-14

The Valley of Dry Bones

Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.””

Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’ ””

Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.”

Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’ ” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.”

Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭11‬-‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’ ””

They weren’t alive until God put breathe into the bones Reviving of the dry bones shows God’s plans for the future of Israel Shows that Israeli just like ourselves must rely upon God's power and not man That God would not just restore them physically but, also Spiritually Fulfillment of prophecy when God re-gathers believing Israelites to the land

THE GARDEN OF EDEN (2:8-17): God planted a garden in the east in Eden. Decided put man in it. God caused all kinds of trees to grow in the garden. He put two special trees in the middle of the garden, the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil .

Four rivers flowed out of Eden and watered the garden, the Pishon, the Gihon, the Tigris, and the Euphrates. God told the man he could eat from every tree in the garden except the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Freedom of choice Obedience to God, allowing Adam and Eve to physically in God's presence Genesis (3:8)

THE CREATION OF WOMAN AND THE NAMING OF THE ANIMALS (2:18-25):

God saw that the man was alone and decided he needed a companion. All of the animals were brought to the man and he named each of them. None of the animals were a suitable companion for him. After the work of naming the animals. Adam demonstrated to God that the animals where under his care and responsibility Gods command in Genesis 1:28, restated in 2:15, and Adam acting on this mandate Genesis 2:19-20

So God caused the man to fall asleep, and while he slept God took one of his ribs and formed a woman.

The woman was the perfect companion for the man. Helper was not a demeaning Just means one who helps Both sex’s where created in Gods image both are equal in terms of being offered salvation and receiving eternal life and reward in God’s Kingdom

God designed men and women to leave their parents and to be joined to a companion as "one flesh." Male and female the way God created it Emotionally, spiritally, intellectually, financially, and every other which way you become one Physically proof of this is in your children Mark 10:2-12 “divorce“

Mark 10:2-4 The Pharisees came and asked Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” testing Him. And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her.”

Mark 10:5-9 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Mark 10:10-12 In the house His disciples also asked Him again about the same matter. So He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Jesus reminds us that divorce is sin Remarriage is adultery. Due to it is a betrayal of the original marriage covenant God hate divorce because, of the damage that it causes

Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ ”And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.“

The man and woman were naked in the garden and they "were not ashamed." innocents no sin no guilt

Closing… Genesis chapter 3 digs deeper into understanding the value that condition of innocence really is.
