SOP Turn on the viscometer and allow standing, must be auto zero. After the few seconds the screen appears which indicates 2 digits . Now press the key. The screen displays the instruction to remove spindle . After removing the spindle and pressing the key the instrument begins. It is auto zeroed. After approximately 15 second the screen displays the instruction to replace spindle Attach the spindle to viscometer by screwing them on the lower shaft using left hand thread . APC, S.P.Patel 7
Press select spindle key and up and down arrow keys. When the desired code is displayed release the arrow key. To select spindle , first press either up and down key which cause the area to show current speed, press the set speed key for adjusting the speed. Insert center of this spindle in the test material until the fluid level is at the immersion groove on the spindle shaft. Tilt the spindle slightly while immersing to avoid air entrapment. To measure high viscosity choose a small spindle and to slow speed if the chosen spindle/speed result in torque above 100% and then reduce the value. APC, S.P.Patel 8
Allow time for the individual reading to stabilize, record the value. Press the motor on/off/escape key to turn off motor The time mode allows the user to record the reading for fixed period of time or until a set torque value is attained. Then enter/auto turnkey allows determining maximum calculated viscosity possible with current spindle/speed. Pressing the up and down arrow keys will allow the viscometer data to be examine, pressing and other key ( except enter/ print key) will bring back normal display. Turn off the mains after use. VALIDATION APC, S.P.Patel 10
IQ: INSTALLATION QUALIFICATION Inspect package for shipping damage Confirm that all components have been supplied as detailed in the Operating Manual and Packing List Assemble lab stand as shown in manual. Mount viscometer head to assembled lab stand as shown in manual. Verify appropriate spindle set (LV #1-#4)(RV/HA/HB #2-#7) APC, S.P.Patel 11
OQ: OPERATION QUALIFICATION Level viscometer using adjustable feet Remove shipping cap on spindle coupling nut Power on Viscometer and follow instructions displayed to complete auto zero Perform oscillation check. APC, S.P.Patel 12
PQ: PERFORMANCE QUALIFICATION Verify calibration using a minimum of one calibrated viscosity standard fluid according to the procedure described below Centipoise reading should be within the value stated on the fluid ± the instrument accuracy and the fluid accuracy. APC, S.P.Patel 13
Oscillation check This check verifies the mechanical condition of the sensing mechanism in the viscometer. Auto-zero the instrument according to directions in the manual. Do not attach the spindle but do press any key so the main screen will be displayed. The display should show 0.0% torque. The tolerance for this and all tests is ±0.1% APC, S.P.Patel 14
Start the motor rotating at 10 or 20 RPM. The % reading should initially bounce, then is should stabilize at 0.0% ± 0.1% Stop the motor. When the % display again stabilizes it should return to 0.0 % ± 0.1% APC, S.P.Patel 15
Operational and Calibration Check Determining Measurement Accuracy All Brookfield instruments are guaranteed to be accurate to within 1% of the full scale range(FSR) in use. The full scale range (FSR) is simply the maximum viscosity that can be measured with any spindle/speed combination. Select a specific spindle and rotational speed. To determine the resulting FSR ( full scale range), depress and hold the AUTORANGE key. APC, S.P.Patel 16
The % display will show 100% and the cP display will show the FSR ( full scale range) that can be measured under current choice of spindle and speed. 1 % of this value is the measurement accuracy under these conditions. APC, S.P.Patel 17
Calibration Check In principle, all Brookfield rotational viscometers are calibrated torque meters. Brookfield offers a variety of viscosity calibration fluids that enable one to check the calibration and linearity of the instrument over its operating torque range of 10%-100% torque. APC, S.P.Patel 18
Any spindle and any one of several calibration fluids may be used to perform a calibration check. Experts recommend using one spindle and one fluid while taking measurements at multiple speeds. This enables multiple calculations of viscosity throughout the torque range of the instrument; one at low torque, one at medium torque and one at high torque. The FSR, and consequently the instrument accuracy in terms of centipoise, will be different at each speed. APC, S.P.Patel 19
The calibration fluid must be transferred into a 600ml low form, Griffin beaker (without creating any bubbles) and, on LV and RV models, the instrument Guard Leg must be used . The beaker , fluid, spindle and Guard Leg must stabilized at 25.0°C (±0.1°C) before the calibration check can be performed. APC, S.P.Patel 20
EX: Actual viscosity is 5,120cP , Allowable error = 1% of the FSR + 1% of the actual value of the calibration fluid The lower and upper viscosity limits, indicating acceptable calibration, equal the actual value of the fluid, in this case 5,120cP , ± the allowable error. APC, S.P.Patel 21

The viscosity reading should equal the cP value on the fluid standard to within the combined accuracies of the Viscometer and the viscosity standard as calculated below Low Limit = A – (B + G) Reading I High Limit = A + (B + G) Pass or Fail APC, S.P.Patel 24
Any reading outside these limits may indicate a Viscometer problem. Contact the Brookfield technical sales department or your local Brookfield dealer/distributor with test results to determine the nature of the problem. APC, S.P.Patel 25
