IntroductionIntroduction
India is a land of diversities. The people inhabiting this vast country belong to
different races, speak different languages, follow different religions and
observe different social customs and traditions. Their political affiliations are
as varied as their eco nomic interests. Perhaps no other developing country
has so much of diversity in dress, race, religion, language and history as India.
The different people who came to India at different times have added to this
complexity in its di versity. We are an independent nation, but it is well known
that nationhood is not merely a product of geography or politics. To be strong,
the nation must have a solid basis in the mind of each of its citizens. In a
democracy, the member of the society must be citizens in the real sense of the
term; citizenship is possible only when the individual feels completely
integrated with the whole, of which he is a part. The state must not be an
amorphous mass but an organic entity
ELEMENTS OF NATIONAL INTAGRATIONELEMENTS OF NATIONAL INTAGRATION
SecularismSecularism
India is a secular state. This means that each citizen of our
country has the right to practice his or her religion. The
government cannot show preference to one religion at the
expense of another. "Sarvadharma Sadbhavana". The government
of the day maintains equal distance from all religions and all
religions are treated equally as enshrined in the constitution. No
religion is regarded as the state religion.
Secularism is not just an ideal but a philosophy of collective living.
Secularism is the best possible way out in a country which is
heterogenous and diverse in religions, languages and groups. Secularism
has been the touchstone of India's policy given her diversity. The phrase
was first put to use in the Indian context by Nehru. He said: "...it is a
state which honours all faiths equally- and gives them equal
opportunities, that as a state, it does not allow itself to be attached to
one faith or religion, which then becomes the state religion." The central
idea of secularism is the equality of religions.
CONSTITUTION
The founding fathers of the constitution were aware that
there were threats to unity from various forces. The
experiences during the freedom struggle and subsequent
partition warned of consequences if safeguards are not
incorporated into the constitution. Consequently, certain
safeguards were placed in our constitution. These took the
form of certain ideals and principles like Democracy,
Secularism, and Social Equality that are guaranteed under
our Fundamental Rights. Therefore, the constitution is the
most important force that promotes national integration by
keeping all provisions in black and white. The opening lines of
the Preamble read, "We the people of India", representing
unity in diversity. The Fundamental Rights, enshrined in the
constitution, guarantee equal rights to all irrespective of
religion, region, caste, creed, etc. The Directive Principles of
state policy direct the state in taking steps towards bringing
equality, justice, and liberty to all. The ideals of the Preamble
are to be established through the Directive Principles of
State Policy. All of these aim at creating conditions for an
egalitarian society in which freedom of all is secured.
Democracy
In a democracy, all the citizens of India are equal
under the law of the country. Fundamental Rights
consider all citizem irrespective of considerations of
religion, region, language and caste as equal in the
eyes of law. All citizens enjoy equal rights to contest in
elections and participate in the electoral process of
the county provided they have the requisite
qualifications. All must obey the rule of law.

FESTIVALSFESTIVALS
01.
02.
National festivals also act as an
important unifying force. Independence
Day, Republic Day, and Gandhi Jayanti
Amebedkar Jayanti are festivals that are
celebrated by all Indians and in all parts
of the country, regardless of language,
region, religion, or culture. This reminds
me us common nationality.
It is on these days that the great sacrifices
made by our heroes of freedom struggle
are remembered and examples are set to
be emulated. On Republic Day, tableaus of
different states are paraded showcasing
the cultural diversity and unity of the
country. It is all intended to foster the
feelings of national unity and integration.
NATIONAL FESTIVALS
01
National Symbols like the
National Flag, the
National Anthem, and the
National Emblem helps to
remind us that we have a
common heritage and
identity.
That is the reason why all citizens
are expected to show respect to
the national symbols. These act as
strong unitying force both in times
of celebration and adversity.
NATIONAL SYMBOLS

NATIONAL SYMBOLS
01
Education plays a key
role as it changes our
thoughts and ideas. It
develops a sense of
reason and thinking
which helps in
developing perceptions
away from stereotypes.
02
This helps young minds to
think beyond their regions,
caste, and religion. It is
pertinent to recall the
words of Jawaharlal Nehru,
when he said, "Right
education open to all is
perhaps the basic remedy
for most of our ills".
03
Education helps
develop a
perception of right
or wrong based on
own reading and
understanding.

ELECTRONIC MEDIAELECTRONIC MEDIA
Rapid strides made in the realm of science
and technology can be instrumental in
fostering national integration. Telecast,
broadcast, and presentation of regional
festivals and fairs in the media create an
awareness of a culture across the nation. In
the absence of the media, regional festivals
get restricted to regions alone. Proper
understanding of mutual culture, its
commonalities, and diversity bring them
together. Lack of understanding of cultures.
ELECTRONIC MEDIA
Social media has been a recent phenomenon that
can substantially promote national integration.
Given the mobile revolution in the last two
decades, most people have access to mobile
24/7.
People on the move are updated through various
sociale media outlets such as Facebook,
Instagram, Whatsapp, and others This helps
understand the diverse socio-cultural
developments thai bring people closer and
together.
There was a time when the people of North Eat
are seen as non-natives. This situation has
undergone a sea change due to cultural exchange
through social media.

ALL INDIA SERVICES
The All India Services like the IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IPS
(Indian Police Service), and IFS (Indian Forest Service promote
national integration. Under this, officers are posted across the length
and breadth of the country on administrative duty in p different
capacities. For example, an officer of the Karnataka cadre may have
to go to Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, and vice versa. This helps
assimilation of different cultures, traditions, and practices prevalent
in a state. This helps the fusion of cultures. The same is p the case
with the members of the judiciary and the armed forces

Conclusions
Regional imbalance, social inequality and inequality of
education and employment opportunity should be set
right if we are to remain as a united. In spite of the great
diversities that we find in India, there is also
fundamental unity. It has its deep root in the Indian soil,
civilization and culture. India is one and indivisible.
While her people speak with many tongues, they speak
with one individual heart.
