History Steffen Burg discover B.malayi in Malaya( S outheast Asia),1927 Brugia timori was firstly described in 1965 in Timor .

Life cycle Indirect life cycle Definitive host : human Intermediate host : mosquitoes of the genus Mansonia , Aedes and Anopheles

Symptoms Lymphadenitis: swelling of the lymph nodes Lymphangitis: inflammation of the lymphatic vessels in response to infection

Lymphedema ( elephantiasis): The most obvious sign of infection, elephantiasis, is the enlargement of the limbs–usually the legs. A late complication of infection, elephantiasis is a form of lymphedema and is caused by repeated inflammation of the lymphatic vessels .

Diagnosis Examination of thick blood smear Serological test (e.g. ELISA). PCR Microfilariae can be detected in urine in case of chyluria
