-INTRODUCTION
The word memorandum is derived from the Latin word
'memo rare' which means "to remember".
In law, a memorandum means a documentrecording terms
of contract.The plural of memorandum is memorandums or
memoranda.
It is commonly known by its abbreviation, viz., and memo.

CHARACTERISTICS OF MEMO
A good memo have certain characteristics:-

Informal tone-Easily understandable.

PARTS OF MEMO
There are four parts of Memorandum:-
1. Heading.
2. Opening.
3. Body.
4. Closing.

1. HEADING
The heading segment of memo includes four elements:-
a. To: Name and Designation of the recipient.
b. From: Name and Designation of the sender.
c. Date: Current and Complete.
d. Subject: Topic of the memo.

2. OPENING 3. CLOSING
State the purpose of
memo, give the facts.
Make a courteous closing
statement. Don’t use
“Sincerely” or other letter-
like ending.

4. BODY
Body of the memo-single spaced.
• The body of the memo contains the message of the
memo.
• It describes, explain and discuss the central idea of the
memo
and includes all the details that supports the sender’s
ideas.
• The body may contain a brief statement of the
recommendation of the sender has reached.
