Pay attention to the discussion. No use of gadgets. Listen attentively to instructions and follow directions carefully. Have fun and learn! CLASSROOM RULES

When you heard the word "Cleaning," what was the first thing that comes to your mind? Cleaning refers to the process of removing contaminants, slag, rust, dirt, grease, or other impurities from the metal surface before, during, and after welding. UNLOCKING DIFFICULTIES

How about "Metalworking”? Metalworking is the process of shaping, cutting, joining, and finishing metal materials to create parts, tools, or structures. UNLOCKING DIFFICULTIES

!ICE BREAKER!

INSTRUCTIONS: I will divide you into two groups and I will whisper a message to the first person on your line and then he or she relay the message up to the last person, The last person in the group will state the correct answer in front. MESSAGE RELAY

2 3 EXPLAIN the importance of cleaning surfaces and edges before welding. DEMONSTRATE the proper cleaning and preparation of metal surfaces and edges before fit-up and tacking. IDENTIFY the acceptable practices in preparing metal surfaces and edges. 1 LEARNING OBJECTIVES

CLEAN SURFACES AND EDGE

Proper cleaning of metal surfaces and edges 1 M ust be in mind before any fit-up and tacking took placed. There must be an acceptable cleaning procedure applied in the surface of the plates and pipes before welding joints. The cleaning of surfaces and edges is considered one step for achieving quality on the preparation of materials.

Edge A need to grind smoothly and squarely so that no gaps appear on the fit-up and the surface of the other plate to form Tee-joint. These two sides of the plate are placed together and see to it that no gaps are found, then tightly assemble. The contaminants that are found in the fit-up must be cleaned and removed for welding safety. Illustration Figure 1

Safety measures:   Before tacking, airtight fit-up must be checked so as to avoid air pockets in the fitted edge or surface.

The drawing showing Fig. A and B plates are beveled cut. The gas cutting results are not properly done, the surface is not smooth and with irregular line cut caused by incorrect cutting. The surface must be smoothened with the use of a grinder until such appearance is accepted. The surface of any dirt and contaminants such as rust, oil, grease, water, scale and old paint must be removed with appropriate tools and solution. Illustration Figure 2

RECAPITULATION 1.What tool use in smoothening metal surfaces? 2.Why is it important to have a smooth metal edge? 3.Can someone volunteer in front point out what metal is ready for tacking?

PERFORMANCE TASK

Preparation of weld surfaces and Edges Students should be able to clean and prepare metal edges using proper tools materials following the WPS standards .

Procedure: 1.Wear standard PPE’s. 2.Prepare materials to be clean. 3.Clean surfaces and edges based on job requirements. 4.Use correct tools and equipment for cleaning surfaces and edges in accordance to job requirements. 5.Perform grinding on rough and uneven surface for smooth preparation

SUMMARY Today, we've learned about the clean surfaces and edge. We've discussed the tools, materials and equipment needed to create it, and the importance of safety in the process.   We've also emphasized the importance of wearing PPE, particularly gloves, to protect your hands from any debris

SHORT QUIZ

1. Why do cleaning of surface and edges of metal so important? a. Provide good appearance of the cut material b. Obey because it was instructed to do so. c. Dirt and other substance detrimental to weld quality. d. Very easy to fit-up joint.

2. Removal of metal scales, old points, rust in metal is easy with the use of: a. Grinder b. Chipping hammer c. Scraper d. Metal and sandpaper

3. Why airtight fit-up necessary for Tee-joint preparation? a. Dirt or contaminant will not stock inside b. Avoid gas pockets associated from the unfit fit-up. c. Rust attacked easily d. None of the above

4. Beveled joint is considered "critical" in the category of weld. This means that: a. Weld joint is necessary for radiography b. Weld joint is for visual c. Weld joint with no inspection d. All of the above.

5. Root face of beveled joint will not exceed a maximum of: a. 3 mm b. 4 mm c. 5 mm d. 6 mm

ASSIGNMENT On a one-whole sheet of paper answer the following: 1.What do you learn on our topic today? 2.Why do accuracy and precision important in welding? 3.How did small mistakes affect your previous projects?

CONCLUSION Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest one in the entire Solar System. This planet’s name has nothing to do with the liquid metal, since Mercury was named after the Roman messenger god. Despite being closer to the Sun than Venus, its temperatures aren’t as terribly hot as that planet’s. Its surface is quite similar to that of Earth’s Moon, which means there are a lot of craters and plains
